I've never understood the concept of mood swings as some atypical way of emoting either. I suppose, the idea is that women have mood swings, which makes them not standard for humans, just something those silly ladies suffer from. My emotional responses to things are normal, ffs.
Maybe mood swings can be taken to mean inexplicable changes in mood? Like, you see a donkey and suddenly you're full of fury. Only that would easily be explained by having witnessed your parents die slow and awful deaths trampled by donkeys. Maybe it's when you get furious when you don't see a donkey?
To me, "mood swings" connotes drastic, perhaps unmotivated changes. It's not like, you're happy and then someone cuts you off in traffic and all of a sudden you're irritated, or you see a sad article and all of a sudden you're a little down. It's more like you're doing fine and then someone cuts you off in traffic and all of a sudden you're mad enough to reach for the AK-47, or you're doing fine and suddenly for no REASON you feel really mad or really sad or really whatever.
I've had both all my life. While I understand to the rest of the world it's irregular it is still my regular.
Like not sleeping is my regular. The things that I used to read and wonder, "Because I meet this criteria does it mean I'm crazy?" I realize I now face as, "Well, that's a thing. Whatever."
