Geekgasm double-feature! TRON sequel trailer! And something GI JOE-related that defies description!

Back to general nerdiness.

First, I should mention that I finally watched TRON last Friday for the express purpose of being able to watch the much-hyped trailer for TRON LEGACY, and holy sweet bejabbers, you folks weren't kidding. That is one sweet trailer. And maybe it's just me, but man, Bridges' delivery of "Not anymore" is downright goosebumps ( Read more... )

Those were both many levels of awesome! Thanks for sharing.

Go see G.I. Joe. It has it's awesomeness moments, and it's very pretty eye candy. At times, it doesn't know if it's G.I. Joe or Star Wars, and some of the lines are made of cheese, but if you go in with those expectations, very fun movie!

The fact that no one else is responding to the G.I. JOE one, either here or on Facebook, is giving me that old familiar sinking feeling that we're a very, very small minority to enjoy such nerdiness of this level.

You mean the kind of minority that relishes the fact that they actually used the line "and knowing is half the battle" in the film?

As a weird little aside, given both the topic of G.I. Joe and the fact that you're plugging your show as of late, I found this little quote on IMDB in the trivia section of G.I. Joe. It made me giggle...:

"Dennis Quaid describes his character Hawk as "a mixture between Chuck Yeager, Sgt. Rock and a naïve Hugh M. Hefner." "

Oh heck, I'd have been shocked if they didn't use that! No, no, no, the nerd that I am demands far more!

... wow, I'm not sure even he knows what the hell kind of character he's trying to describe. As the one person I know who's seen it, does that at all come through in his performance?

"Tony! How're you doing, buddy? Hey, I have pizza! YOU CAN'T HAVE ANY! Nah, I'm just kiddin'! Hey, lookit me, I got a Segway, wheeeeeeee! Hey, is that your heart? Mind if I FUCKING RIP IT OUT K TNX HAHAHA IS EVIL."

ahahaha. soo true!! he was such a damn good friend/villain.

I just rewatched Iron Man again last week with a few folks who adore the Big Lebowski but hadn't seen Iron Man. They were really shocked that Jeff Bridges wound up being evil. I wasn't sure why, as he is bald in the movie, after all.

Y'know, it's funny how much I keep hearing people were SHOCKED that Stane turned out to be evil. I mean, c'mon, yeah, bald! Duh! Also, he had a beard. Never a good sign.

Then there are the people who think he went too evil/crazy too quickly. Honestly, I went in knowing he was evil (just evil in a nice way! The pizza!), so it all seemed to fit to me!

It's inspired! But makes sense, really. Hal spent the 70's being Ollie Queen's straight man.

Count me amongst those who thought they would save EVILStane for the second movie. I figured he'd be fighting the Ten Rings guys for the first film. All the nice bits were just knife twists to make the betrayal hurt that much more. But also let Obie stew a bit more and let Bridges really cut loose as an actor when it all came out. Oh well.

As for the GI JOE video, I caught myself thinking over the concept of Snake Eyes painting. Japanese swordsman used to focus on calligraphy with the same focus and dedication as they did swordsmanship. The brush and the sword being one you see. Add that SE is a mix of the skills of a swordsman, a ninja and a special forces solider in a person. That draws similar parallels with the mixing of paints on a canvas make..... ok yeah way too much thought into this

Now that you put it that way, it is rather sad that we couldn't have built up for it just for the express purpose of having more Jeff Bridges, spread out and built up more. Ah well. It didn't bother me in the same way that, say, Aaron Eckhart's Harvey went from 0 to CRAZY instantly, with no build-up whatsoever.

See, that's what I mean! It's weirdly somehow in character! I buy it!
