Simon Pegg: ZOMBIES DON'T RUN!

Nov 05, 2008 18:33

Thanks Bloo.

Simon Pegg on why Romero-style slow zombies are and will always be superior to Zack-Snyder-style fast zombies.

He makes excellent, thoroughly geeky points. I look forward to referring this to anyone who trashes slow zombies or hold the DAWN OF THE DEAD remake up as better than the original. Depressingly, such people exist.

I am okay with fast zombies.

As a zombie aficionado, I have been fine with shaking up our mythos; trying a new spin on a brilliant theme.

Simon Pegg just made me question all that.

This was brilliant.

Ha, I can't believe I didn't think to send this to you! The dude makes great arguments, touching upon things that I'm ashamed I didn't even think about when it came to zombie movies.

I'm surprised he liked 28 Days Later (even though it is one of my favorite horror films). I agree that it's not a true zombie film, more like a plague movie deeply in debt to Romero.

Have there been any other fast zombie movies other that the Dawn reboot?

Yeah, I'm glad he made that distinction. It's an important one that benefits all parties.

Well, there's RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD from the mid-80's, which was also the first zombie film to have zombies that say "brains." It's also a comedy-horror, but it counts, because it's awesome.

"Send more cops" is worth breaking the rules for, all by itself.

Hey, I read that just yesterday. Guardian newspaper always has the most fun stuff.

Dead Set was very good & I reccommend it to all folk who like satire and zombies. Though perhaps the sheer unadulterated joy that UK watchers got from watching Davina McCall get zombified may be lost on you Yankees.

(Pretty much the whole of last week in my work was a game of "Let's pretend to be zombie Davina McCall!" Even senior management got in on the act.)

I definitely want to check out this series... just as I'm interested in the World War Z film adapatation (that should be a miniseries.) Seeing another genre send up Big Brother (as the revamped Dr. Who did in its first season) should be fun too ( ... )
