I had slightly more mixed reactions to the season opener. The plot could have definitely used work--I mean, Delano the Bond Villain (I LIKE your description of him; it's perfect!) who had the cleverness and wherewithal to break himself and Wo Fat out of prison, is foiled in his own escape attempt by....a traffic jam????!!
Also, I have mixed feelings about Steve's mom. I didn't care for her too much--although now we know where Steve got his high tolerance for Danny's belligerent attitude. And her being a secret agent is cool--Steve apparently inherited his Ninja skills from Mom!
On the McDanno front, I do like the short joke disguised as Danny's new nickname! Love Steve constantly lavishing Danny with new nicknames. :D
They did a good job with the drama at the end, showing Steve & Danny, Kono & Adam, then contrasting with Chin & his Grief--the hollow place where Malia used to be a still-bleeding wound.
It think the ep would have worked better as a two-parter, since cramming those action scenes really undercut the emotional weight of the episode. It was jarring going back and forth like that.
And yeah, I hadn't thought of that but 'foiled by a traffic jam' is kind of hilarious. Where's that damn helicopter when you need it?
That said, I totally agree about the ending. Chin in that empty house broke my heart and I sniffled when he looked in the oven. I love how they handled his grief, it made a big impact even though it didn't get a lot of screentime.
I'm still so bummed they killed Malia. Oh Chin. *sigh* Adam was awesome. Steve & Danny ♥ I think I love Doris.
I really need to watch it again to form a more solid opinion. One of my biggest complaints with this show is that they try to cram too much into one ep and end up cutting too much out which makes the final product suffer in the end.
Yes! While I appreciate the 'let's wrap everything up and move on' attitude, there was just way too much going on, it ended up overshadowing the emotional beats. I need to watch it again, too.
It was a very Bond-y episode, wasn't it? In a lot of ways.
Doris is bad-ass. I've been a fan of Lahti for years and I adored her! I'm a bit lukewarm towards Doris herself as a person, because well, I trust her about as far as I can throw her, but she's an awesome, awesome character!
Danny! Is a bear! I'm just gonna keep being really pleased about that. Though my face was about the same as his at "Boo-Boo". I liked that Danny was kind of pissy towards Doris and she was so defensive in relation to him. Love Danny the button pusher :)
Yeah, I also figured Malia was going to fridged for the "manpain", at least DDK rocked it.
Kono is still my favourite.
If she and Cath talk to each other and fight along side each other, I will be a very happy camper!
Doris is definitely a great character, and I don't think it was intended for us to love her immediately, even though I do simply because she is kind of murky and ambiguous. I'm assuming we'll find out more about her and her motives as the season goes on. It's going to be interesting.
Oh yes, Danny the Button Pusher. It's his superpower. :D My love for him just keeps on growing.
I'm really hoping for some good Kono/Cath kickass moments. And bonding moments. Also, I want Cath and Danny to snicker together over Steve's neat-freak tendencies.

Totally agreed on the scene with Adam saving Kono. Woo baby! All that hotness was kind of distracting. :D
