I’ve been meaning to write this post for a long time, but I haven’t been able to get my head around it. It's almost a little too obvious, but I really like the Discworld as a setting. It started off almost as a parody of high fantasy but grew into so much more. I remember reading an interview with Terry Pratchett where said he started writing it because there were so many poor Tolkien imitators around and thought he could at least do better than that. I love reading Discworld novels because they contain so many references to things in this world, the better my general knowledge gets, the more I re-read them, the more I pick up on. And there's also the Science of Discworld to point out some of the technical parallels for the less scientifically minded. But doing physics A-level suddenly brought a whole new level to the books ( ... )
