I currently have a bit of a dilemma.

Nothing major, of course. But my dilemma is that I have $50 to spend on books and I don’t know what I want to read.

Here’s my problem: in the past year, I have accepted that I am almost exclusively a reader of young adult books. I am more than comfortable with this. I ( Read more... )

Question: Have you read Ilona Andrews' books at all? My roommate has been crazy about them lately. They kinda fall into your forbidden category, though....I mean, there's no romance, but there's some sexual tension between main girl and a shapeshifter. I like that vampires aren't meant to ever be love interests - they're actually handled in a really cool way. If you ever feel like you crave this sort of fantasy again, I'd like to know your thoughts on these.

I'm currently reading Apathy and Other Small Victories by Paul Neilan. It is one of the funniest books I've read in years. It's not YA or fantasy. It's not of any of the categories you have posted, but if you are in a bookstore, read at least the first chapter.

I just finished a book called "Genesis", a smallish novel by Bernard Beckett. It's YA sci-fi, and a very interesting read for both entertainment and intellectual stimulation.

I'm a fan of J. Gregory Keyes' alternate history, Newton's Canon, that's in the Age of (Un)Reason and discovery in colonial America; it's more the "steamy" than the "punky" and a very involved worldbuilding like Carey but less (if any) sex. ;-)

Of course, pick up both OCTAVIAN NOTHING books by M.T. Anderson!

Other questions:
1) Lighter colors, maybe a colorful shawl thrown in?
2) Can you take anything in trade as you have similar interests with these people?

Yeh, that's all I got for now...until 2010, that is! XD
