Oh man, Liesel and her Papa were what hooked me through the entire book. Maybe because I feel such a strong bond to my dad that was formed through music and words. Any way you slice it, I sobbed harder during the end of that book than I have since the end of His Dark Materials. I'm glad you liked it! I rarely cry in books; I sniffled at the end of His Dark Materials (which is like...my favourite young adult fantasy of all time) but I haven't sobbed this hard in a book since the end of Ramona and Her Mother when I was six. OMG. (I cry more easily with movies, possibly because I am a visual person.)

I too, am very close to my dad, so Liesel's relationship to her Papa gutted me. I also really loved Rudy, who was very genuine and real and so like the boys I know when they were 11.
