!!! Let's make it our collective life's mission to find this little gem. My favourite line in the summary was "Like Story of a Discharged Prisoner earlier" - I can't believe anyone would just throw in that title so nonchalantly.
Early JC yes? I certainly hope you've been watching Class & Sixteen Candles, as he plays pretty much the same character in both. IF ONLY a 15 year old Cusack was rolling around in the bushes outside my house with binoculars and camera in hand...
Alright! I think I'm going to make it my lifelong obsession. I might send it off to the Mu Meson archives and ask them to make it their life mission too. I love how "Stopping only to rob some teddy boys in the city" is so casually thrown in, it could be easily exchanged with "Stopping only for icecream..."
I was actually watching High Fidelity before too, to throw in some later JC for good measure. Haven't seen Class yet, but I saw Tapeheads last night - a babyfaced JC dons a pencil thin moustache and some classic one-liners. Ramo has this theory where she thinks that he was once a Rude Boy. If true, that'd be too perfect.
Oh god, Tapeheads. I haven't seen that in years! Jello Biafra... JC's an oldie in that, miss - wait till you see his baby tween self in Class!! After your post, I'm going to have to pack in my school books soon to watch Say Anything I think.
Yes, Mu Meson! They never did show that Velvet Underground super8 film in full did they?
"Being here alone, I've been thinking about myself, too. Trying to understand why i hate myself so badly."
"it took me a long time to realise that i did, but believe me, i did. DO." "And it came down to this: in the moment when I truly understand my enemy, understand him well enough to defeat him, then in that very moment, i also love him." "I think it's impossible to really understand somebody, what they want, what they believe, and not love them the way they love themselves."
"And in that very moment when i love them, I destroy them. I make it impossible for them to ever hurt me again. I grind them and grind them until they don't exist."
