[filtered to the ConvoyI've made my decision. Iroh, Brooklyn...you're right. I'm keeping the crew together for the most part as long as I can. We're headed for the Rahki River as quickly as possible. Once we're there, we'll have an idea of what we'll find at the other two mainland locations ( Read more... )

And just who'd you hear that from?

One of my mechanics. A former employee of yours, as I understand it.

And how exactly was it spun? Forgive me for bein' on edge, cap'n, but we've got an awful lot of shady folk trying to butt in on our business. I can't afford to be overly friendly til I get a better idea of what your exact involvement is.

Then I'll be frank.

The technology currently in your hands is similar to something that was stolen from us several months ago. Uncannily similar. We were able to recover the original...item, but what I'd like to know is where you got that machine and what you intend to do with it. All I know right now is that you have what appears to be a modified copy of something that is already dangerous, and the only ones who could have created it are either on my ship...or connected to the group that stole m--...y machine.

Does the name Denouement mean anything to you?

Not exactly, but I got a funny feeling it should. Mind filling me in?

[It's Prime's turn to go cold]

They're a terrorist group. Denouement is responsible for the Lunasa bombings of three years ago and the kidnapping of the Erealian prince, among other things. Its goal? To start a war between Ivona and Vohemar, then sell weapons to both sides. I'd wager my ship that mech you're carrying is one of those weapons.

...you know, I think you and I need to have a nice, long chat about this. I'm assuming Rikku filled you in on our cargo, right?

As long as you keep it out of Denouement's hands, I'll be happy to answer any questions you have about it.

What I want to know is who you got it from and where you're taking it.

We've got a passenger on board by the name of Low Key Lyesmith, who decided to help us out by getting us a delivery job for a few of his buddies, a couple of scientist types from Twewe. According to them - and Lyesmith - it was s'posed to be an "advancement in transportation", and just needed their lil' toy delivered safe and sound outside of Bydan.

But, well, the cargo started acting pretty funny for something that's supposed to be for transportation, and I don't know about you, but I ain't never seen a vehicle that that looked like an overgrown tin soldier.

Low Key Lyesmith...it doesn't ring a bell. Unfortunately, you've caught me at a bit of a critical moment, or I would go talk to this Lyesmith myself. As it is...

...what exactly did the "overgrown tin soldier" do?

Nothing too dangerous, but it was awfully unnerving, if I say so myself. One of the arms started flopping around in its crate all by itself, while the head started spouting off threats of destruction. How does that match up with what was ripped offa you folks?

Ours is definitely not programmed for destruction. In addition, according to what Rikku told me, ours is shaped much the same as yours, though yours is easily twice its size. She didn't give me any more details.

And is there anything else 'bout this group or your machine - and its theft - that we should know about?

There is one more thing.

If that machine is like ours, there might be an airship of greatly advanced technology out there that it can interface with. If that happens, it will be able to control the ship completely -- along with any weapons on board.

Captain Reynolds, if that clank falls into the wrong hands, there's no telling what Denouement will do with it. They could sell it to one of the countries and tip the balance of power, or use it themselves for destruction. It must not reach Bydan.
