Alright, new people, once again welcome. I'm Martha Jones, the head of the infirmary and I'd like to ask that you set up appointments with me in the infirmary so we could establish a medical baseline for emergencies. The physical is completely hands off and only takes a minute. Thank you ( Read more... )

Of course you can, Martha.

Any particular reason? Not that you need a reason, but-- [And because he isn't always completely oblivious, he actually sounds a bit concerned:] You're all right, aren't you?

[Which bit? The ignoring-him-to-protect-him bit? Because the Doctor has no problem with that. Well, not much of one. Sometimes you have to ignore people or leave them behind for their own good. Or so he thinks.]

Well, you tend to do people quite a lot of good, don't you? Perhaps meeting Martha Jones was just what he needed. [And that reminds him of himself, oddly enough.]

Admittedly, I can't recall ever having this many in one place before. It shouldn't be possible. Lucky that it hasn't caused the universe to implode. Or punched a hole the size of Sheffield in the space-time continuum. But I've already got loads of selves here; what's one more? [He doesn't really feel that cavalier about it, but he can pretend.

He can't, however, pretend about Rassilon.] As for Rassilon...well. He shouldn't be here, frankly. I can't begin to guess the rationale behind that. It should never have happened.

[The whole not really paying attention and giving him the invisibility cloak thing. Pretty much sending a kid in to do things that really should have been an adult, but whatever. Dumbledore was indeed brilliant, though.

Martha did smile when he said that she tended to do people a lot of good. Well, she hoped so anyway. Sometimes she felt that she did less good than others, but it was nice to hear.]

Well, that's one good thing about it being out of time, don't need to worry about that.

[As for Rassilon] Perhaps he just sees something in him that we don't. I mean, I never would have thought that certain people could be redeemed and then they were.

[Well, the Doctor would agree that he ought to have had more help. He really doesn't advocate ruining childhoods. Unlike some people from his planet.]

No, I suppose we don't. Anything seems to be possible here, or very nearly, but I'm not sure if I'm convinced that it's always for the best.

It can take a bit of digging to find the potential in someone, I'll give you that. And I don't like to discount that possibility in anyone, but-- I know him. Have done for a very, very long time. I know what he's capable of, and I know how utterly certain he is that he's in the right. He just might pose a threat greater than anyone else on this ship.

Well, if that's true, we'll deal with that, just like we do everything else, yeah? I think people are brought her for a reason, and maybe being here will make him better, even a little bit. I don't know him well, but from what I've seen of him... He's definitely a giant git who sounds on parr with Davros, but at least he thinks he's doing it for the right reasons? Perhaps that would be a place to start with him.

[That was Martha, trying to solve things the best way that she could.]

We will. 'Course we will. [He nods, trying to sound confident.] It's just that-- he's different from anything you've faced. Well, anything that you and I faced, that is. I'm not claiming to know about everything you've faced since then, apart from what you've told me.

Oh, yes, he's got his reasons, and he refuses to listen to anyone who doesn't share them. [Perhaps he'd be more willing to listen to someone who wasn't the Doctor, though.] On top of that? He believes that he's superior to every other species in the entire universe--and while that isn't exactly atypical for most Time Lords, he's taken it to an extreme that's so far beyond anything.... I'm shocked that he hasn't got anyone here killed yet. [He can't quite accept that Rassilon is redeemable, yet. This is the only man who'll actually get the Doctor to pick up a gun, after all.]

But we'll...we'll sort it out. Like we always do.
