Room 205 [afternoon]

Aug 09, 2010 18:44

Katniss was still dragging from the weekend. She felt empty -- like she'd been back through the arena in the space of a few days. And no matter how hard she tried, she wasn't able to feel full, it seemed ( Read more... )

There were other people to look in on, without seeming to actually care, which was, of course, a lie but it was one that Rosalind took great pleasure in hiding behind.

It was simpler.

But there was a blonde Turk in the doorway, just to check up on her little sib. "Katniss."

That was both 'hello' and 'how are you' rolled into one. The food got a glance but nothing else.

Katniss politely swallowed her beef with broccoli before saying, "Hello, Rosalind."

Effie would be so proud. She'd even chewed, too.

That did spare Rosalind the need to lecture on that. Even better.

She leaned in the doorway, equal parts awkward and comfortable--the checking in was awkward, the pose was comfortable. Mostly she eyed Katniss, trying to decide how she was.

"You appear in one piece."

And that carried a minor but definite bit of approval.

Katniss shrugged a little. "We all made it out," she admitted. "Despite the odds." She tilted her head, realizing she hadn't seen Rosalind in Silent Hill. "Were you here for the weekend?"

"I was," she said, with a stiff nod of her head. "The island underwent a great number of changes. My understanding is the monsters here were reflective of some of the ones in the other locations."

"Men with no arms? Rabid dogs?" Katniss asked, picking at her food. "That was what I saw the most of."

"Them," she replied mildly. "Amongst others. How did you fare against them?"

She gave a humorless little smile. "I'm here, aren't I? I had my bow with me when I went through, and my knife, though I loaned it out to someone who wasn't armed. I did fine."

Physically, anyway.

"Do you think me so easily put off with an answer like that?" Rosalind asked archly.

Katniss opened her mouth to argue, but sighed instead. "I'd hoped, but I guess not. You can sit down, you know," she offered, gesturing into the room.

"As you wish," she replied, and much as she had in Jacob's room, made herself comfortable at one of the desks.

Rosalind was silent for a moment.

"You'll be ill if you attempt to eat this much."

"Probably," Katniss agreed. "I barely ate all weekend, though. Abundance of food is part of coming home, for me. Always has been."

Rosalind inclined her head.

"As long as it's not wasted, I have little issue with it."

She actually did smile at that. "Believe me, I won't waste food. Do you want some?"

See, she could share. But only because she'd already eaten a bit and wasn't prone to being scary about her food.

"Perhaps a little," she allowed, "so long as the offer is made in good faith and not out of obligation."

"If you're asking about wasting food, it makes me think you've been hungry before. That alone is enough for it to be a sincere offer, even if I wasn't already feeling charitable," Katniss told her. "Help yourself."
