Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls,

I'm looking for some new material.

I need:
books
movies
new music (songs, cds, artists)
musicals
tv shows to watch on dvd
podcasts

I have extremely eccentric tastes, so i'm open to just about anything.

Any recommendations?  =]

musical, music, books

I'll have to check for Rant at my local used book store. I just finished Fight Club recently and LOVED it lol.

I just recently had someone tell me about Dr. Horrible's sing-along-blog.. is that a youtube thing?

it used to be free on the website. Now it seems you have to buy it on itunes.

books:
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. When I read that book, I had such a hard time putting it down... it just kept calling to me, you know? And I haven't had a book do that to me in a long time. 'tis fantasy.
Read the first three Bourne books. Amazing read, if you're into that sort of style.

I'll try to find a copy of Name of the Wind. I also dug out that old list you gave me and am FINALLY going to read the rest of the books in the Ender series if I can find them lol.

Bourne books.. are those what I think they are? haha

Probably. They're what the movies were loosely based off of, although they're quite different. For the movies, they modernized things a bit.

Books: White Teeth by Zadie Smith (one of the most enjoyable contemporary books I've read in a long time), Good Omens by Terry Prachett/Neil Gaiman if you want something light and hilarious, White Oleander (don't judge if you've seen the sub-par movie; the book is fantastic), and anything by David Sedaris (because he's one of the three funniest men alive). If you are feeling academic/literary, I'd also add East of Eden by Steinbeck, The Portrait of a Lady by James, and Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar.
Movies: The Fall (in theaters now, so may not be in Stockton/Lodi, but AMAZING movie), American Psycho, Across the Universe (you NEED to rent this one. Or borrow it from me when I'm home), Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Little Miss Sunshine and Sweeney Todd (if you haven't already seen them).
Music: The new Counting Crows CD is really good. Ever listened to Cream? Clapton love. Ingrid Michaelson, Feist, Imogen Heap. I'm not great at keeping up with music.

Adding these ALL to my list of things to find haha. Is Terry Prachett the one who wrote that book we talked about in highschool.. drat. I'm drawing a blank.. something about the grim reaper? I recently aquired Me talk Pretty One Day, havn't started it yet though. Also own East of Eden... somewhere.
American Psycho scared the bejeebers out of me. I'm on a Christian Bale kick lately though haha. Not to sound like everyone and their mother right now but.. Have you seen the new batman movie? =] Havn't heard of the Fall, but I'll ask Wren to drive to Sac with me to see if we can find it. STILL haven't seen Across the Universe. No one will watch it with me, and I have been dying to see it since it was in theaters. Ugh. Own Hedwig (due to a Netflix fluke), but only saw the first half. Own Little Miss Sunshine (looove it) and Sweeny Todd ( ... )

Yay, always glad to share my nerdy loves.
Prachett did write the Death character that I talked about from his Discworld series. He shows up a bit in Good Omens, though he's much more fun in the Discworld universe.
I watched American Psycho with Michael and he told me it was a parody that completely wouldn't scare me. I think he felt bad about that when I hid in his shoulder and refused to watch once the chainsaw came out. But I still loved it. Yeah, the new Batman is so awesome. I don't even like action movies and it was great anyway.
I'll be home in Stockton for a week starting August 16 or 17th, so you should come over and we can break out my extended DVD of Across the Universe :)
