D/s themes on HBO's Deadwood

Longish thought-dump regarding D/s themes on Deadwood, specifically in the relationship between Al and Jewel and the Al/Trixie/Sol triangle. Spoilers through second season (need to rewatch third); if you haven't seen the show I'd recommend that you borrow the dvds from me before reading.

I know you wrote this years ago, but I'm just exploring some Deadwood insights and implications, and I ran across this. I wrote a bit about my take on Al and Trixie on the deadwoodtv community and I feel like I was going right up to where you started, with you fleshing it out so much more and giving me more to think about.

Trying to save his mother by saving Trixie--I never thought of that and that blows me away in how right that feels.
I'm not 100% sure I see him as her dominant, but dominant to the camp, yes, although exhausting.

Thanks for the comment! I wrote the essay so people could read it, and it's nice to know that, at least occasionally, people do. Anyway I'm glad it resonated for you and gave you more to think about, and I look forward to checking out your post.
