DDLJ is the film that started my Bollywood obsession. You can't help but feel sunnier walking away from it, despite your knowledge of its tried and true cliches. Great songs throughout!
Have you ever seen Don from the 70s? Not the Don 2006 junk with Shah Rukh, but the original with Amitabh Bachchan. It rules for so many reasons, not the least of which is this musical number. It also has a totally ass-kicking kung fu heroine with a taste for revenge. Then check out Amar, Akbar, Anthony for Amitabh's amazing Easter Egg spectacular! The heroines in this one are less fierce, but it's an extremely funny film.
I find the music to be much more interesting in older Bollywood films. These are two of my favorites that always make me feel like dancing (or emerging from a giant egg).
Haha, I have written Don down in my list of stuff to see, and am busy scouring boot sales for previously-owned ginormous easter eggs. If I owned one, I would totally emerge fabulously from it every morning, even if no one was around to witness it!
