163: A Random Blend of Families and Fashions

Do you ever have one of those Bad Fannish Idea days? Where, like, you think, "I know what'd be cool! A Fullmetal Alchemist x Supernatural crossover. Yes, I want that, despite the fact that I don't know either fandom and it would be so angst-filled that small nations would simply collapse under the weight of the despair and never really know why." Thank you! I actually feel much better now. I am not alone in my Sports Night-linked cultural misapprehensions! (And, fortunately, I was pimped into SN by a person who doesn't do RPS, or else I might well have made the same mistake.)

And when you add in the fact that the show about the show about sports is not, itself, about sports - well. Yeah. I think your assumption was way more logical, which is probably where you went wrong. In my years in fandom, I've learned that TV is never, ever logical or reasonable.

Every day is bad Fannish Idea Day in my brain! Usually, this manifests as crossovers that should never be, which I keep locked away safely in my brain.

I thought everyone's brains were like that.

That is against the fannish code, you know; you're supposed to share stuff like that, so we can all feel less crazed when we, for example, begin plotting to send other cops to other times a la Life on Mars. (Benton Fraser! In 1860! Is he mad, in a coma, or traveling through time? All three, obviously. Jim Ellison => the Stonewall era = Awesome! And so on!)

I thought everyone's brains were like that.

Well, yeah, to a degree. But sometimes the ideas just latch on and will not let go, and when you're considering learning two new canons - and you don't typically know any canons - solely to write a crossover that no one would read, I believe it has become a whole Bad Fannish Idea day, as opposed to merely the normal malfunctions of the fannish mind. (Actually, it's proving to be a Bad Fannish Idea week, because I still think SPN and Fullmetal Alchemist were designed to be fused.)

(Or, like - I could buy a vidder and have her do "I Will Survive" for Jack/Daniel after Daniel's ascension: "So you're back/from outer space/I just walked in to find you here/With that same look upon your face/I should have locked the stupid gate/I should have changed your IDC/If I'd known for just one second" - oh god it's a sickness I can't stop won't someone for the love of all that is holy please help me? Think of the fandom!)Proof that one fan's "Bad Fannish Idea" is another's "Best Idea Ever ( ... )

Hi! Yay! I thought you were gone forever! *hugs you delightedly*

"I Will Survive" has already been vidded (at least once) in Stargate - and I'm actually quite fond of the vid. Back in 2002, Wimsy used Gloria Gaynor's version of "I Will Survive" for a Teal'c and "a special friend" vid. She said it was: "Meant to be a lighthearted look at one of the show's more, errr, interesting relationships."

*downloads instantly*

But, no, the SG1 + "I Will Survive" doesn't by itself make it a LKBV type idea. It's using the song in reference to the biggest angst arc of the entire ten year series: Daniel's ascension and return. And making it look as though Jack is like, "You fucker, you're back?" That is what adds the special badness to the idea, in my opinion.

...You know, the more I think about it, the closer I inch toward buying anyone willing to vid SG1 in SC, solely for that purpose. It could be a Bad Fannish Idea whose time has come.

And in a similar vein, I love Carol S' vid for Teal'c, "We'll Meet Again" which was made in 2004. Look in ( ... )

I should have locked the stupid gate/I should have changed your IDC

*proposes marriage* Or, um. Blogging in sin? I would totally blog in sin with you.

I have no new fandoms to suggest for pimping; right now I'm wandering through the archive of an old fandom, TPM, consumed with fond nostalgia, for reasons which will shortly become apparent. :)

Oh, yes, come blog with me and be my love. Perhaps we can get disapproving looks from our virtual neighbors and be righteously defriended by everyone!

I have no new fandoms to suggest for pimping; right now I'm wandering through the archive of an old fandom, TPM, consumed with fond nostalgia, for reasons which will shortly become apparent.

Oh, you fictease. (At least, I assume you're talking about a story. Whatever it is, you have, in mentioning it, now triggered a bout of malignant curiosity. Which, you realize, turns our whole blogging-in-sin story into a tragedy; I will cough twice in my first entry, and in my last one will expire romantically and poetically, perhaps in dactylic hexameter, while you post "NOOOOOOOOOOO" in all caps and 16-point font and with far too many exclamation points.)

O noes! My Camille!

I promise, your curiosity will not remain unsatisfied for long. I am at present engagaged in determining whether it would be more propitious to post on a Sunday night, or on a Monday morning, considering the nature of the story, the nature of fandom in general, the position of the stars, and my apparent inability to write a normal sentence ever again.

(This story has broken my head. We may expire in parallel posts.)

What do you think? Sunday or Monday? :)

O noes! My Camille!

*tries to figure out the emoticon for consumptive coughing*

*fails*

I tell you, blogging in sin is one thing, but blogging in tragic romantic everyone-dies-in-the-fifth-act sin is going to be hard.

Also, our marriage bed LJ will likely have to have a black background. Oh, all is woe.

What do you think? Sunday or Monday?

NOW. NOW NOW NOW.

You know, just as a suggestion.

Really, stop_drop_porn has brought so much to the dS community. It's a concept every fandom could use, I think.

*pauses for a moment to give thanks*

It really has, yes. But then, dS fandom as a whole is made of sheer, utter, unabashed and optimistic love (excepting the *very* rare occasional death or insurmountable emotional disfunction fic). It's the *happiest* fandom I've read, and (now) gotten to write in. I could sing love songs and comission (not write, because whoa) epic poems to this fandom.
