seriously, sometimes I just want to hide my face in my hands and rock back and forth, it's THAT BAD
I will, when watching something that hits my squick, close my eyes and cover my ears and go "LA LA LA LA" really loudly. So I hear you on the hair-trigger squick there.
It's number four that kills me the most, because, these people WRITE FOR A LIVING. How the hell do they have this massive failure of communicating via the written word when the medium is the internet? I just don't get it at ALL.
I've given this a lot of thought, and I think it's partly a failure to understand a) what this "internet" is and b) who their audience is. There's a lot of honest bewilderment from them - "But who are these people calling me on my fail? I don't even KNOW them!" - which argues that they believe that somehow, there are, like, sections of the internet, and people can't see them unless they're invited. Which, you know, not. And then also they don't understand that they're talking to more than just their peer group, that there are people out there
