I will have you know that it's a good thing that I'm typing not speaking to you, because I am laughing so hard that I'm starting to wheeze. ::falls off chair, laughing hysterically::
Y'know, this episode made a lot of sense to me when I was 12 or 13. ::thinks about that:: Ah, I see. Okay, then.
Hmmm, wish I could think of an episode where you'd find McCoy awesome, or at least tolerable. My best friend and I fell in love with ST together, and she was all about Spock so I took McCoy's side but now I can't really remember why.
BB feels enormously justified by this. I maintain that William Shatner is no proof of normalcy. THERE IS UNREST IN OUR HOUSEHOLD TONIGHT. (But, hee! Shatner can't make the sign!)
Also, Zachary Quinto glued/taped (have heard both, not sure which medium he used, but he has admitted it's true) his fingers together to make sure he did it properly.
I personally don't have any difficulty with it. ;)
Vulcan is filled with people who are warmly receptive of individual differences and would have loved the chance to get to know Spock, but they just couldn't face dealing with his jerkface parents. I imagine kids asking if they can invite Spock to their logic party, or whatever wee Vulcans have, and their parents saying, "Honey, he's a wonderful kid, but if I have to spend one single second with his mother or father, I'm going to disavow the teachings of Surak, so no." Later, I imagine the Vulcan Science Academy offering him a place with a special commendation for being such a decent person despite being raised by flaming assholes, and Spock declining with thanks, all, "I'd love to, but I need to get a lot further away from my parents."
The actress who played T'Pring couldn't do the Vulcan hand salute. They had to arrange her hand ahead of time and hide it among her robes. Apparently a lot of people can't do it.
I have to say that your recaps are only getting better and better. I was giggling hysterically the whole way through this one. I'm sorry that you hate McCoy, 'cause I loved him as a kid, but maybe I'd see him differently if I re-watched nowadays.
A friend of mine linked me to this clip and I thought of you immediately, especially when I read this line from your recap: which is about the size of an ear thermometer and does not look at all like a sex toy, are you kidding? Kirk is stuck in a cave and breaks off a stalactite to use as a weapon. And what a mighty weapon it is.
Apparently! Although I am not sure why. Maybe there's a muscle difference?
I have to say that your recaps are only getting better and better.
Thank you! And you should TOTALLY re-watch now, and not just to check on McCoy (although I do think you'd see him differently now, but lots of people love him, so I could be wrong!) - it's just a wonderful and seriously funny show. Everyone should watch it!
And what a mighty weapon it is.
OH MY GOD I HAVE TO WATCH THAT EPISODE. The penis! The giant stone dildo! (And the HUGELY PADDED COAT. That man is drowning in padding, for serious - I have NEVER seen shoulders that padded, not even on football players.) *dies laughing*
