Tell me what to buy, please.

Thus far, we've been watching TOS mostly off of a Best of Star Trek DVD that appears to be marketed solely to me. ("You met Kirk and Spock as young men on the big screen, now join them on their later journeys." Yes, I know. The comma problem bothers me, too ( Read more... )

But wait for one of those Sales of Awesome. They come up pretty regularly.

This is excellent advice! Except I'm not sure I CAN wait. I find myself twitching, knowing I have no more TOS in the house. It's like a sickness, ami! I am in real trouble, here!

*ducks behind veil with you*

Would copying provide subtitles? I don't know how these things work!

I think it would? Unfortunately, with the loss of my last laptop, I also lost the program that allowed me to copy DVDs and therefore I can't verify this information.

Oh, btw, because no one has mentioned this in the comments, be careful which DVDs you get. They remastered the episodes a few years back and, at least in Canada, those are the ones most commonly available. It made it so hard to find the original DVDs! My brother found me the first two seasons second-hand, but I still haven't found the third one. I have no idea what they did when they remastered them, but I don't care. I don't want those.

I don't know if the DVD you have has the remastered episodes or not.

DUDE. Star Trek: The Original Series is an ALL OR NOTHING thing! you cannot - CANNOT - just MEH away season three! There is CANON TO CONSIDER. It is WHERE SLASH CAME FROM. You must see it ALL. Dammit. You life will be UNFULFILLED without all three seasons! Besides, the final TOS episode is the worst omg so bad it turns the corner into BEST THING that ever happened to my TV.

TRACEY. I love you SO MUCH, and I had no idea you had this hidden wellspring of TOS love in you! WHAT ELSE DO YOU LOVE THAT YOU HAVEN'T MENTIONED TO ME?

*suspects you of secretly LOVING loads of ancient TV shows and paying Liz in kinky sex not to tell anyone*

*further suspects you of wanting to have Spock's babies, NOT THAT THERE IS ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT*

dude. I have met the ENTIRE ORIGINAL CAST, with the exception of DeForest Kelley, but with the inclusion of Mark Leonard (Spock's dad). I have read omg far too many of the Pocket Books Star Trek novels. I went to MANY CONVENTIONS. It was my first fandom and I didn't even KNOW about slash yet. AND YET I HAD THE LOVE. You watching it for the first time in 2009 is making me GLEEFUL, ngl! <3<3<3

I totally can't. I spend so much time pausing and going back and so on that I inevitably crash my browser. I am a terrible, terrible TV watcher, and I can just about manage it with a DVD and subtitles and a remote and a Best Beloved there providing helpful commentary. ("That's the same guy as before, you know. And that's the girl he was talking to. And they're in a bar, you get that, right?") Anything else is a total disaster.

Have you WATCHED all three seasons? And if so, how come everybody seems to have seen this show and NO ONE has provided me with detailed episode reviews that might have gotten me to watch it years ago?

*eyes you with great suspicion*

I have not yet watched all three seasons, no. I have only owned the DVDs for around 3 months and I usually need at least 4 or 5 months of build-up before I even break the packaging for Episode 1.

Also I'm pretty sure that even if I did write episode reviews, they'd be way less awesome than yours, and probably would pretty much consist of "Kirk and Spock are gay in space!"
