The Klingons would have thrown double axels because they didn't really do triples until the 80s! And then Dick Button could appear to make bitchy comments about their terrible layback spin positions and lord over them that HE was the first sentient being to successfully land a double axel.
The amount of lame and tribbles in this episode are truly mind-boggling. (Also, I completely agree that there is a DS9 episode you need to see. Spartacus!)
The Vulcans pretty much ran Earth as a colony -- think India -- for eighty years. I figure Spock was the first Vulcan in Starfleet for the same reason Englishmen didn't become Bombay night soil carriers.
I believe you are confusing Vulcans with Romulans. In TOS-era Trek, they did not even know what Romulans LOOKED like until the episode "Balance of Terror".
Uhura and Chekov have come to the bar. To shop. I guess the showrunners didn't want to move the furniture around again to make a store?
The script writer got told that building sets for a bar and a shop was too expensive, so they had to be the same place. I don't know what it says about me that I know this.
