If you don't mind me asking...

Why would people need some place safe to go when they've had their chips out? Don't they get their strength and powers back?

what is a 'chip'? I know they keep you from using your powers...

[....ff.]

New kid, huh?

The chip's implanted when you're brought here. It's....a little piece of machinery.

[pause.]

When it's removed, your powers go out of whack for a little while. 'S about a week. Stuff...happens.

By removing the chip we loose control? Well that's troublesome.

I'm not sure what I could suggest to protect the city from someone like me other than... I guess I'd have to sit in water for a week or so. It's the only thing known to be able to suppress our abilities. I'd need to keep my head above water so it's still a gamble, I could die or something unexpected could happen.

As for anyone else? I guess it would depend on what the danger is but distance seems our best bet. Hell, if we could build a ship to sail out far enough maybe that could work too. But even then I don't know that it would work for everyone.

[pfff.]

If we could build a ship to get out of here, we'd all be on it.

[quiet again, for a few moments.]

Water, huh? I'll keep that in mind. Hell...maybe the doctors should start asking how to protect people when they take out chips.

With all the abandoned or otherwise unlivable places I saw in passing I imagine we could scrounge up enough supplies. At least to make a boat for those who've had their chips out and need space to recover. I imagine there could be someone among the rabble with the knowledge of how to build a ship.

Afraid all I could do is offer pointers and what I know from being on one for a few years.

Yep, people from our world who've eaten a devils fruit gain amazing powers but lose the ability to swim and are rejected by the sea. Rain doesn't have much affect, or snow for that matter, just seems like large bodies of water.

It's a thought, at least. It'd be like a cruise.

[pff.]

...you were on a boat and you couldn't swim?

Something like that. It keeps the city safe from their powers and gives them time.

Yeah. Don't get me wrong I learned how to as a kid, but after I ate the fruit I just sank like a rock. The water makes you helpless. I learned to work around it, makes things a hell of a lot more exciting!

['a hell of a lot more exciting', huh.

...you just might be jackie's brand of awesome.]

What kinda powers you got, other than Rock-in-Water fu?

[Boisterous laughter. Rock-in-water fu. Funniest shit he's heard since he got here. He'll speak here in a moment, let him catch his breath.] I gotto remember that one.

I can control fire. You name it, I can probably do it or figure out how. I can even turn my body into it so that bullets can pass right through.
