There is nothing like making music, omfg. I'm so glad I joined african drumming -- well, half glad, half not glad. Turns out I'm performing with some others tomorrow for some Kwanza celebration with a beat I learned today. Fail. And I'm the only one playing the beat on top, which would be a compliment save for when I get tired (it's a long piece), ( Read more... )

The last two weeks of the semester signifies that I am really in college. Holy hell. I've got two presentations - one on my dad and his livelihood as a musician, and one on Adam, about language aquisition, both next week. A test this Friday coupled with two exams in two weeks or so means I should be working, but I can't be assed. I'm not learning anything new in class anymore, it feels so liberating!

i know what you mean. i've got papers and exams just hitting me in the face right now. i can already taste the caffine in my future. and i havent learned one new thing since i got back from break. on the upside, with nothing left to do really, my classes get out early almost everyday now. w00!

we're totally gonna party someday soon. and i'll speak my french. :D

I'm so excited. Pleeease come up here sometime. Not now, because of the ugly time-consuming work-ness, but after winter break. Unless you want to come all the way up to new york. In the winter. Heart!

Omg french i'm so excited. Call me tonight, I demand a preview. :3

Sophitia is pretty bad. (as in, bad motherfucker, not bad like 'ew onoes'.) I don't remember the last time I lost with her.

I'm more of a Talim or a Seung Mina(sp) person though.

Yeah, I can see you as a Talim person >D My second is Seung Mina. I can whoop up some major ass with her bladed pole.

Sophitia was my first love though.

You look kinda like her, too, if I'm not mistaken.

I LOVE staffs. Infinitely. And most long-ranged weaponry, so Ivy, as hard as she is, also appeals.

Back when I was part of an ethnic ensemble and played one of the more melodious instruments, that was my same problem - but I got better at it with practice, plus I started to have this sickness of suddenly tapping my hands on every surface I encounter.

I guess I was fortunate in that ensemble - there were few prissy condescending females there, even the dancing team. I think the music beat it out of them.

That's awesome. What did you play? I'm playing a west african jembe for today.

The kulintang - I don't know if it has an English name.

Our ensemble had djembes too, though they were used less often than we used congas. ^_^ I also remember one my boyfriend borrowed from a friend - it smelled like bacon when you sniffed at its bottom. xD
