The mysterious dark hair... I figured the mom really has darker hair but she gets it frosted. It's the early 80s, common enough. :D Actually, when I made it the same color as John's, I didn't like how it looked, so lightened it. Artistic license?
Oh I get it that the Mom changes her hair according to the seasons ;-) .. It just that at first glance John is so much the outsider which makes me rather sad... only when I further scrutinize that he got the face from Mom, and ears from Dad, even the stance is from Dad (?)
P.S. : Are you going to make this into John Icon too ?? coz I seriously LOOOOVE your ear!twinkle John icon... :-D
You're right, he did get the stance from Dad. I wanted them to mirror each other, but John putting his own spin on it. John is probably more like his dad than he wants to admit. You can't really tell in the pic, but he also got his eyebrows (I tried to make them like the Flan's but hard to notice since they are blond) and the cowlicks. Dad is just better at keeping them down, although one or two spring up a little. ;)
Oh my god, I'm dead from adorable. I mean, the implications are all very sad, but John's hair! His tie! The fact that he's clearly inherited Patrick's smirk! Dave's cheesy smile! Mrs Sheppard's awesome dress!
heh. glad you enjoy it. was so much fun to draw. I maybe had to look at some old promos for Dallas for inspiration! Mrs Sheppard may or may not be greatly inspired by Sue Ellen. At the very least her dress is. :D
I'm glad people are seeing all the subtext, which was fun to think about and try to pull off. I haven't drawn something just for fun in eons. Totally reinvigorated!
Oh, this is adorable! John and his hair! His mother, anchoring him to the family! Dad and Davey, Old Block and Chip (off of the~)! And John's already wearing the wristband, hmm... there must be a story there!
Thanks! It was a lot of fun to sort of extrapolate from the whole 7 minutes or whatever we got of John's backstory in canon, plus make these people look somehow related.
I have no idea why the wristband already, but I throw that out to the universe if anyone wants to come up with a story. Hint hint universe! ;)
