I made cupcakes a couple of months ago from scratch that was supposed to be 12... and it came out to 24 exactly. My mom told me it's probably because they assume we have the larger muffin tins rather than the "normal" size everyone buys. I was worried I totally screwed up the recipe and went over everything I did/measured in my head, haha.
