There was a story about Vatican priests hanging out with rent boys about a year ago...maybe this is self-preservation.

Catholisism is all kinds of messed up. When my mom divorced my abusive dad, she was pretty much excommunicated. Because apparently good Catholics just take it and that's that. Also, apparently there aren't enough Catholics in the world, thus the ban on condoms. Because overpopulation isn't a problem or anything.

Me, bitter? There's a reason I became pagan.

Oh, believe me, I understand that.

My dad was raised Catholic and was preparing to actually enter the seminary when his *parents* divorced. So they told him he couldn't enter the seminary. And he stood there going, "But what did *I* do?" and they said, basically, "rulez are rulez - especially really old ones" so... yeah.

Yeah, fastest way to turn your kid away from organized religion is to raise them Catholic. I used to be very devout, since my Great-grandpa was a priest who left the priesthood to marry my great-grandma, and the rest of the family was raised to be VERY devout. But after certain experiences, no thanks. It sounds like your dad got the crap end of the stick, too.

James once said that there were few pleasures in life that were as good as falling away from the Catholic Church. However, in his case it involved him walking up to the Junior Choir Conductor on Easter Sunday, handing him the baton and saying, "Oh, by the way, I don't believe in any of this, so I'm leaving now. You'll probably be needing this." and walking out.

James could be a bit of a prick.

However, this statement sounds like the cardinals got together and nobody was there to say, "Guys, the problem with this is it is completely stupid."

When I heard that on the news, I was like O.o?! And that's the reason why I'll never put a foot inside a church again until they change their policy - which means, never.
