This is a major loss for American journalism.  I first took note of Tim when he got out his trusty dry erase board to walk us through the heated electoral votes during the Bush/Gore election.  He's been my go-to guy for political interviews ever since.  Tim always seemed like a good guy who loved his family, his country, and politics.  And although
