Hopped off the ICE at the Berlin Hauptbahnhof, stowed my luggage in one of those 24 hr pay lockers and went directly to the venue where Frank & Justin were playing. I made it only for their last song, but that's ok. I'll see them play in Zurich Thursday ( Read more... )

There are tonnes of recipes online for the wine mixture. You'll just have to find one that matches your tastes best.

I love love love the smoking bans. Particularly given my asthma it makes going out so much more pleasant. The biggest difference I find is restaurants. It has always disgusted me getting a mouthful of smoke with my delicious food. Unfortunately this experience cuts into patio time in the summer, but I won't put up with smoke and I have a zero tolerance policy when Sid and Lily are with me.

Those bans have been here (in parts of Australia) for at least 10 years. They rock so much. Moreso than clubs or pubs. I am amazed how much better the air is (or, rather, how foul the air was), and how the clothes I wear out don't need to be laundered immediately.

My trip to Paris in '01 was an eye-opener. Back then, in addition to no concept of personal space, smoking seemed to be A-OKAY everywhere.

Oh the clothing! Yes how nasty that smell is of clothing the next day after clubbing in a smoky hell. There was this one place in Seattle that got around the smoking ban by technically making it a "private club". The ventilation was horrid and I could never last more than a couple hours there.

Now back in Canada I suppose people could get around the rules in the same way, but don't seem to be doing that. I just hold my breath as I exit places and battle through the cloud of smoke. Not surprisingly Montreal (and to some degree Toronto) is still very smoky.

IIRC places in the UK tried that too. Hell, places here tried that to get around liqour laws. It worked for a while.

Oh, let me guess? Shopping centres and movieplexes are the worst for that sort of thing. Office buildings too.

For reasons known only to... er... the universe, I have a perfect sense of direction in Europe (Northern Hemisphere).

At home I'm lucky if I can make it to the corner store without getting lost.
