My oldest dog, the Mama-dog of our little pack, is dying.  Not in the abstract sense, either.  She has been diagnosed with lymphoma after a couple of trips to the vet.  At first, I thought she would be one of those dogs we heard about that would do alright on steroids and rest.  If that were the case, we could have as much as a few months with her ( Read more... )

Dude, I'm so sorry to hear about Kayla. I know how important she is to you. I'm just glad that Jax & Me & BL got a chance to meet her. She is an awesome dog. Our hearts are with you, bro.

Oh, no. I'm so sorry. What you describe takes me back to the loss of my beloved Fido a couple of years ago. After I learned of his cancer diagnosis, I had a couple of weeks with him before we had to let him go. We lavished him with all the love we could, and when we put him to sleep, he was held and surrounded by our love. It may have been the hardest thing I've ever had to do.

Perhaps it's because we gave him so much attention and affection that he had some good days. I hope that Kayla will also rally enough to enjoy the time with you that she has left.

I don't know for sure whether this helped, but we let our dog drink some aloe juice for digestion (in particular, this brand in Strawberry Kiwi flavor, which my sister has sold and used for some time). Could be a coincidence, but he seemed to get some of his appetite back and liked the flavor. We either let him lap some up or, sometimes, fed him from a dropper.

You, your family, and Kayla are in my thoughts.

Losing a pet is I think sometimes worse than losing a person close to us - they're so non-judgmental and unconditionally loving.
