KING IN THE NORTH! [spoilers] not that it matters anymore in book 4, but still. [/spoilers]
Book 4 gets a bad rap but I guess it goes down a lot easier when you haven't waited like 5 years for it, and also you know you can go straight onto Dany and Tyrion et al in the next book instead of waiting for another 5 years. :D
I actually feel that SPN's been less painful this year than s6 and s5. God, those were horrid. This year seems lighter in tone. Except for, y'know, the deaths and alcoholism and Satan living in your brain and stuff. Whatevs.
I do understand what you mean though - I picked up 2 & 3 at Christmas and breezed straight into four in a matter of weeks. I think if I had to wait a few years I'd most likely have to re-read the whole saga as I tend to forget little things.
There was a point however where I thought all my favourite characters were going to be toast, so I'm pleased a few are still about.
SPN just doesn't have the ensemble cast to keep me interested especially not after this season anyway. The reappearance of Lucifer was the highlight of the last ep but when they focus on Dean/Sam angst yet again I get all 'ho hum'.
