Mirror, mirror on the wall... [Complete]

Jan 11, 2009 20:02

Characters: Rayne
Setting: Public Restroom
Time: Day 006, very early morning.
Summary: The mirrors cause Rayne to lose her shit.
Warnings: Rayne’s thought process.

The click of her heels on the tile floor echoed in the empty bathroom as Rayne walked into the restroom, warily eyeing the row of stalls. Knowing that something could be in there - The sitting room behind her was full proof of that, something that she just couldn’t get off of her mind. - the dhampir headed toward them, intent on at least opening each door to check. The rest of what she had already seen lingered with her, however.

They were not the first people to be put through this, she thought, as she pushed the first door open, finding nothing behind it. It had been done before - Who knew how many times before. - and it hadn’t ended well. From what she could tell, of the bodies she had seen - The second door was pushed open, and she found the same as the first. Nothing. - all of them had not only died, but had cracked, and killed themselves.

Weaklings, she mused, pushing open the door of the third stall, before moving on. None of them had been fighters, either, judging from the odd amount of objects that had been used as weapons in the room with all the beds and drawers. They were normal people that had been forced into this and now - The forth stall had nothing in it as well. - whoever was running this freak show had found abnormal people to test.

Pushing the final stall open, Rayne didn’t relax as she found nothing, yet again. Moving away from the stalls, she paused as she saw something on the back of the door through the crack in-between the edge of the door and the divider. Eyes narrowing, the redhead paused, before moving into the stall, and closing the door to get a better look.

‘Help us.’

Lips pulling into a frown as she ran her fingers over the jagged, carved letters, Rayne shook her head in disgust before moving out of the stall. Pathetic. Whoever had picked the current occupants of the house shouldn’t expect such behavior, at least, not from her. She had been through far worse things in her life than what this house has put her though. She wouldn’t be found with a bullet through her brain, by her own hand. She was not, and would never, be that weak.

Moving to leave the restroom, and start exploring the rest of the new rooms, the redhead suddenly halted as she caught something out of the corner of her eye. Slowly turning, as if scared that she’ll see what she thought she had, Rayne exhaled a sharp and jagged breath as she looked in the mirror. No… No, no, no, she can’t be here, no.

Quickly spinning around to look behind her, Rayne’s breath was shaky as she scanned the area behind her. Nothing. No one. The redhead felt foolish as she realized that it must have been another of the house’s tricks, embarrassment burning in her along with anger that such a thing had even been pulled. Turning back to the mirror, an arm already raised and pulled back, her fist hit the mirror with a loud crack, right next to the face of the androgynous blue eyed blonde that stared back at her. The reflection cracked and splintered as the mirror shattered, breaking up the image of the female that stared out. Rayne’s anger seemed to suddenly drain, looking at the fractured picture, leaving her feeling heavy and tired. Pulling her hand back, the redhead sadly stared at the broken reflection, a heavy sigh escaping her.

She had been afraid. She hated to admit it, but there it was, true. She had been terrified that Angie would be here. Here in a place that she may have been able to survive, but despised and hated. She would not wish this house on anyone she cared about, especially her. She had been through too much to do anything to deserve to go through this.

Stepping away from the mirror, Rayne slowly shook her head, before she turned to hurry out of the room, not looking at either mirror as she left. She had to get back to the task at hand, though she had a feeling that she would be highly distracted now, the image that had been in the mirror flashing on repeat in her mind.
