Machi turned his head in surprise, opening his mouth as though to say something, though he did not. The sunlight caught the lenses of his sunglasses and they reflected it back at the two, though only one of them would see it ( ... )

Alphonse jumped when he suddenly heard another voice - he hadn't heard anyone else come in, and his immediate thought was that it was the pianist...but judging by what was said, he guessed not. Besides, he actually did recognize the voice. "Jonouchi!" he said, after recovering from the momentary shock at suddenly hearing a different voice in the room, especially one so unexpected. He put on a smile for the other boy, momentarily oblivious to the eyes fixed on him behind sunglasses. Once he was made aware, however ( ... )

As the two began the most awkward conversation he'd heard in quite some time, Jonouchi glanced about the room once more. He didn't see Alphonse's brother anywhere around, and he didn't hear any noises from the dining room or kitchen. Could Alphonse really have been all alone there? It was surprising to say the least - in their brief encounter earlier, Ed had really seemed to be the protective sort. To be letting his blind brother wander around all by himself meant something had happened. Instinctively, Jonouchi wandered over and placed a hand on Alphonse's shoulder. He didn't have anything planned, so he was more than willing to help the kid out for a little while.

"Yeah, poor Alphonse's been hurting for a while. Still, he's a tough kid. I see you've even been making it around the house on your own, Alphonse. I'm impressed!"

Jonouchi's words and gesture triggered a sudden painful response, and it was added to the mash of conflicting emotions, piling on top of his battling dislike (and distrust) of Al and innate sense of sensitivity to such disability. Blindness seemed to be a theme for today, and the condition in general made Machi simultaneously empathic and over-sensitive. The fight (if one could call it that) with the girl in the kitchen earlier made him especially prickly about it and he had to try and sort through the need (impulse?) to be helpful and his immediate aversion to Alphonse that he'd acquired when they'd met. Jonouchi seemed to know Al pretty well, but Machi didn't respect Jonouchi's choice of people at all. His empathy won out in the end, however, and he slid off the piano bench, sunglasses masking his expression.

"How... why are you get hurt?" It was a valid question--Machi didn't need to know how Alphonse had navigated the house without eyes to see with (were there eyes under the burn? To Machi's mind, it didn't really matter), he ( ... )

Alphonse was startled for a brief moment, after he suddenly felt Jonouchi's hand on his shoulder. It surprised him...but the gesture and the words were both more than welcome, due to their comforting nature (and besides, praise like that was always welcome, and made him feel a little proud of himself, especially considering his age). "Th-thank you..." he said, quietly, for Jonouchi. "I've just been wandering around..."

Alphonse's attention returned to the other boy, however, when he heard him moving, presumably off of the piano bench, and the questions that came just after it. He frowned a little bit, trying to figure out the best way to answer him. "It was...my first night here, I guess." time was a hard thing to describe, really, in this place, so he assumed that was the best way to put it. "One of the ghosts came, and..." he trailed off - unsure of how to say any more than that. He hoped it was enough to leave a moderately clear picture of what had happened - but it really wasn't enough, was it? "He grabbed me."
