There was a brief period of staring at the skeletal hand before her before she accepted it, trying to not to let her hesitation slip into the gesture of taking and giving it a brief shake. She knew it was impolite to act in such a manner and she was fairly successful at ignoring the skeleton factor, it was just so...strange to be shaking hands with something that lacked flesh. "Mio Amakura, the pleasure's all mine," she said somewhat shyly, frowning as she considered his question. It felt like forever since she'd crash landed in here... "Awhile...nearly two months," she decided, eyes lowering. It'd been too long...she shuffled a little as she asked a question of her own, seeming unsure as to what the appropriate way to ask it would be, "Um, what about you...?"

If Jack actually noticed the staring, he didn't respond to it; he gave Mio a cheerful shake in return, unperturbed by the awkwardness and distinct differences between their appearances. After all, he was used to dealing with people with flesh, without, with bandages, with bark, with metal.... All in all, Halloweentown was a lively crowd with plenty of differences, and to make a fuss about anything so 'skin-deep' as a lack thereof seemed rather silly to him. People were just people, right? Jack offered Mio a warm smile, though it dimmed slightly at her words. "Two months.... that is quite a while, isn't it? I'm not exactly sure myself, but I've been here somewhere between one month and two...."

His internal clock that told him how close to Halloween it was tended to be unerringly accurate--the problem was he simply didn't always pay attention to it, so he had no starting point to reference. "It sounds like it hasn't been an easy stay for you, has it?"

Jack was certainly less sensitive than Zetsu. She had no qualms with the way the plant man was, except perhaps for how unhappy he seemed, but the difference was obvious enough for her to notice. It made her wonder how different their lives must have been before here. She wondered if he hadn't made that simple mistake (and if she herself hadn't made a mistake) if his life would have been better. She wondered if he - they - would be here right now. Would he have been better off then? ...Would he have been better off if he hadn't met her, had her to cause him so much trouble?

Probably, she decided. She nodded to Jack's question, hearing it and understanding it, as well as his statement, but she wasn't quite shaken from his thoughts until he suggested that it hadn't been an easy time. "Eh...?" She perked up a little, blinking slowly. Was it...was she that obvious? She thought on the question for a moment before dropping her eyes again, answering quietly, "It...um...it's been a little difficult..."

Jack offered Mio a sympathetic smile, leaning over to give the young girl an affectionate pat on the back as she looked away. He never liked to see a sad face, after all--Halloween was about laughter and fun! It just wouldn't do to celebrate if you weren't happy. Besides, the littlest trick-or-treaters were the people who almost always celebrated most wholeheartedly of all; children did hold a special place in his heart. A little difficult, huh? Well, even a little scrape could be a big deal when it really hurt, and even a little difficulty could be a big downer.... "Would you like to talk about it?"

((OOC: Agh, sorry for late as hell crappy failpost.))

Mio almost ducked out of the way of the pat before simply accepting it. It didn't bother her, it'd just been unexpected, much like his next question. That, too...she clutched her camera, idly looking at the lens. Was it really okay to tell a stranger so much...some things - what had happened with Mayu - she could not admit to, but she supposed telling the skeleton a little couldn't hurt. Still staring at her camera, she gave she the slight nod of the head before she spoke, "I...'m not very competent when it comes to physical threats, but ghosts..." She brought the camera a little closer, held it a little tighter, "I can handle those ( ... )
