Today had been surprisingly long already; the explorations had not helped his piece of mind. A morgue, a surgery room, a cemetery.... Even if he was used to death, they were chilling, unsettling things to find in what seemed until now as if it had been a personal residence. He didn't like the grim air they were suddenly giving the place, or the helpless feeling of inevitability.... And waking up wearing a collar had not helped this matter any. Zetsu made a soft noise of confusion and tugged at it--it had no buckle that he could find, nor even two distinct ends--to no avail, scratching at his neck. It wouldn't so much as budge from his skin, and his (very, very careful) attempts to cut it off had done nothing, though he couldn't tell that it was made of anything sterner than plain leather. So this was like the walls, then.... dammit. But then again, the walls had been clawed at this morning--maybe something similar could happen to this collar too ( ... )

For a few minutes, she was able to forget her troubles.

At first Fiona didn't even notice the plant man, engrossed in her current activity. It wasn't until the song was finished that she acknowledged that there was someone there, the piano generating an unpleasant sound as her fingers sharply fell on the keeps and a small gasp escaped her. She hadn't yet looked to see who it was, but already her body was trembling. From the sound of the voice, it was male. From the sounds of the footsteps, he was approaching her. She didn't like either of those things.

Still not looking to see who it was, dreading what she might see, she scooted more to one end of the seat. The heiress was nearly placed at the edge when she finally worked up the courage to see who it was that was approaching her, to find...just what was he? She might have been able to overlook the dual-toned skin, even the oddly colored eyes, but...he had leaves. That was just...how was that even possible...? And before she could even get over that fact, she came to the startling ( ... )

The song ended with a gasp and an abrupt sour note; he must have only been noticed now, hmm? She didn't sound like the most vigilant young woman he'd ever met.... then again, not many in this place were. Still, his heart fluttered with anxiety that was most definitely not his own, a feeling that was at once both disorienting and putting him on edge. What was this? Why....?

If he'd had a firm monopoly on his own emotions, maybe he would have stayed calmer and more rational. Maybe he would have realized that this was not a good time to hope for her to talk rationally and coherently to him--that it wasn't a good idea to approach her at all, because she was just like the others, wasn't she? Afraid, they were always afraid.... He hadn't done anything but come and get her attention, and already he could feel himself starting to sweat.

That was probably why his first impulse was to try and calm Fiona down, simply because he was so uneasy himself; Zetsu came closer, moving to put a hand on her shoulder. "Are you alright?"

Fiona could feel panic rising as he drew closer - the color was starting to bleed out of everything (except the bright reds so much like blood so vivid!) and it all seemed grainier, less distinguishable. Feeling his hand on her nearly enough to send her over the edge.

Nearly, but not quite. Unfortunately, she was still stuck in a state where she couldn't bring herself to move. It was all she could do to lean her head back and stare up at him, trembling and trying to do something else, anything else. But still, she could only look on - or as much as she could, anyway. What was left of her rationality tried to encourage her to give a response. To tell him that she was fine, maybe then he might go away. He didn't seem to mean any harm, but then she'd been there before time and time again (do your best, Fiona!)...why should now be any different? Why should he be any different ( ... )

Yukimi didn't know about collars or panic attacks or anything of the sort. But he did know that the blonde brat had gone missing, that he didn't want to stay any longer with that ridiculous woman and the (very nice, but still unsettling) reindeer. Much longer of this and he would lose his sanity. It was this goddamn house ( ... )

It was hard to say what set her off. Perhaps it was Zetsu's alarm adding to her own, maybe it was Zetsu's instance on getting closer, or perhaps it was Yukimi's arrival. If she'd been able to recognize the ninja's own distress for what it was, things might not have turned out the way they did.

Unfortunately as it was, Fiona wasn't able to and so as it was she instead allowed herself to be sent over the edge. For a moment her body locked up before the panic finally overwhelmed her and she found herself with no other options but to run. A scream escaped her as she threw the small ball of refined antimony Zetsu's way and hoping it'd hit. If it made contact, it would explode on impact and electrify the poor man. Not enough to do any significant damage, or even do much more than give the blond a head start, but then again that was all she needed.

She didn't wait to see the results (not that she could have, given her current sight impairment), following her scream she ran out of the room as fast as she could, nearly tripping over herself ( ... )

Mio, on the other hand, had been perfectly calm up and happy, having had just sat down in the dining room with her freshly made melonpan. She was just about to take a bite into it when she heard a scream that not only nearly made her drop it, but nearly made her fall out of her chair due to the shock of it. Had night fallen without her realizing it? No, there was definitely still light...

So why would anyone be screaming? Scared to think of what she might find, she got up, holding the melopan with both hands as she stuck close to one wall, leaning over to look out into the grand room to see...Zetsu and a blond boy she didn't realize, neither of whom looked effeminate enough to have made such a scream. Oh, wait, there it was. A blond girl running out the door into the hallway. Strange...

Seeing no immediate danger, she walked into the grand room and took a few steps towards Zetsu, who...actually, he wasn't looking so good himself.

Yukimi was hardly noticed--Zetsu was more focused on the fact that a ball of something was flying straight for his face. He threw up a forearm on instinct to block it, though that did no good; it exploded as it hit, and he let out a strangled exclamation of pain as he went down on his knees, arcs of crackling blue-white electricity leaping and coiling over his body. It wasn't even so much the fact that it hurt--which it did, quite a bit--that disabled him, so much as the fact that the electricity was simply forcing his muscles to spasm and lock up, sparks flying as he tried to regain control of his body ( ... )
