Mello ignored Ciel's complaints for a moment as he dropped another armful of clothing on top of the pile he had made for him. The kid was probably right to be concerned about the clothing he had found for him; rather unfortunately for Ciel, Mello had gone by his own personal taste in clothes while picking them out as opposed to being even remotely mindful of what Ciel would prefer to wear. As a result, his pile-- which had grown quite large-- had quickly become a very dark mess of leather, metal, and the occasional rhinestone, and looked much more like a selection of clothes that Mello would wear than anything Ciel ever would.

"Shut up," he snapped at the boy, "You shouldn't get any say in what you wear until you're able to dress yourself. And besides, I'm enjoying finding clothes for you." Mello normally wouldn't have said the last part aloud, but it was the truth. For some reason, he'd been having an incredibly hard time being dishonest about anything for a while now, and although he didn't find that he particularly liked it ( ... )

Having been the attendant for a young lady of high society, Break was coming at this from quite a different perspective; Ciel was a young lord and he would learn to dress like one. As careless as Break may be about his own clothes, it was habit to be particular about how children in his care dressed. Break had collected some clothing too, but it looked completely unlike Mello's pile-- there were elegant coats and pristine white gloves, and enough frills and embroidery to kill a man. They were probably more like what Ciel was used to, but they were also more complicated and definitely too warm for this weather ( ... )

Ciel went pale at the mention of Sebastian's name. It was still a rather sore subject for him. "Sebastian failed me. His opinion no longer matters to me." His voice was cold and curt and his stare was just as icy. Sebastian had left him alone here in this house. The seal on his eye was dulled. "He broke our contract, I no longer have any interest in him." He hadn't meant to mention the contract, but the filter that usually kept him from telling his own secrets seemed to have decided to pack it's bags and leave.

When Break held up the pink bodice up, Ciel stepped back in shock and disgust. "No. I would rather die than be caught in another dress! The first time was bad enough!" Ciel spun on Mello, "And that," he shouted while pointing at the pile of clothes that Mello had amassed, "is not what you are teaching me to dress with! Break at least has a sense of fashion!"

"...Sebastian?" Mello found that he was a little bit curious about this 'Sebastian' character Ciel and Break spoke of. Who was this guy they were talking about, and what connection did he have to Ciel? Did Break know him, too? And why did Ciel seem so bitter about him? What was this contract he had broken? Mello wasn't entirely sure why he cared-- he supposed whoever this guy Ciel had some connection with probably wouldn't matter much at all to him-- but he wanted to know what Ciel was talking about anyway. "Who the hell's Sebastian?"

He snickered at Break's dress comment. Mello may have been just as guilty of wearing dresses as Ciel was the past night-- or possibly even more guilty, as he had been much more willing to wear the damn thing than Ciel had-- but the kid's reaction to the whole scenario was pretty entertaining. But...

"Excuse me?" He cried out in response to Ciel's remark about 'Break at least having a sense of fashion.' "Break has a sense of fashion? You've got to be kidding me!" He turned around to point ( ... )

"It's hardly fair to blame him, now is it? As Ms. Crescent said, if you go running off, your attendants can't always follow you. Take responsibility! And besides--" Break gave a light laugh, eyeing Ciel with a bemused smile. "If he no longer matters, why does he still get such a reaction out of you?"

A little more direct than usual, perhaps, but he found himself doing that lately. It must be because he was distracted; something was off. There was a general sense of unease punctuated by a few sharp bouts of uncharacteristic anxiety-- he couldn't even tell what he was anxious about, which only made things worse-- and sometimes words would just slip out while he was preoccupied. Not that it was disastrous to ramble on for a bit or to harass Ciel about Sebastian, but Break was still waiting for the other foot to drop. Trouble was definitely coming ( ... )
