Since his first death, Mello had improved considerably with this whole surviving concept. Although the whole incident with the hellhounds had been... extremely unpleasant at the very least, and he had been quite freaked out about it even after having woken up again, he realized that perhaps his death hadn't been entirely terrible. He had, after all, learned quite a bit from the experience.

Running from even the slightest abnormality as soon as he laid eyes upon it simply wasn't going to work. There was absolutely no way it could-- everything seemed to be freakish tonight. He had to get some control over himself. Panicking over the whole situation like a damn idiot would only get him killed over and over again. He couldn't help but be slightly annoyed with himself for having been so stupid. If he wanted to survive he'd need to remain calm through this whole thing. And he had to seriously improve his strategies if that was to be the case.

And so, after thinking rationally for a while, he decided it would be a decent play ( ... )

Sanji was a little startled by his visitor, but acknowledged the scarred man with a nod. "We haven't," he said. He yawned and twirled his fork around in his fingers. "What brings you into this house? Is Acedia raining acid or something now?"

He sighed. Maybe he should keep his mouth shut and now give the crummy house any ideas. Who know who was listening.

The guy was looking at his cake. Sanji considered this - he really didn't know this guy, but if he was hungry there was no point letting him starve. No one deserved to go hungry, and the guy had (sort of) tried to greet him politely.

Still, if he was hungry . . .

"If you're hungry I've got more cakes in the fridge. The recipe says it's supposed to be served warm but there's one ghost monster thing that gets attracted to heat, and I don't particularly feel like running into him again. So you're welcome to it if you don't mind it chilled."

"This whole place is completely infested with monsters and freaky shit," Mello explained. "And I don't really feel like being attacked by something every other minute. His tone was just short of snapping; although the guy really hadn't done anything deserving of being replied to in such a rude manner, Mello couldn't help but to be a bit annoyed with his question. It wasn't that the question wasn't legitimate-- as a general rule, people around here seemed to prefer the other house over this one, which, when taken into perspective how much damn creepier Ira was, was really quite understandable-- but couldn't the guy figure out why Mello was here on his own? Did he just somehow not know that this place was infested, or was Mello apparently the only person here who had a problem with the fact that there were monsters everywhere? Was he just that fucking pathetic? The guy didn't really seem like he'd been trying to insult him... but then again, Mello hadn't exactly considered that, and the entire statement came off as mocking to him ( ... )

Sanji snarled. "I meant THIS house - no one knows why we're in this shitty place in general. I don't think anyone LIKES it but that's not what I meant." Jackass.

"Torture room? Odd choice of hangout but whatever." Wasn't Sanji's problem if this guy liked hanging out in that creepy place.

The mention of the cake calmed him down. If this guy was hungry, even if he was a snappy son of a bitch, he would not turn away the hungry. After all if he'd been spending all of his time trying to keep away from the monsters . . . Sanji sighed and smiled. He'd give the guy another chance. "Yeah. A friend of mine ended up here too so I've been cooking for the two of us. I made extra in case anyone else was hungry. Help yourself."

"I'm hanging out in the torture room," Mello repeated himself-- he couldn't tell whether the guy had understood what he'd meant before or not-- "because it is the only room that's actually completely safe right now. It is true that I enjoy spending time in there, but that's not entirely the reason I have been lately. And that's why I'm in this house. I'm trying to avoid all the monsters and shit."

He let out a sharp sigh. Though Mello was being rather unnecessarily snappy, the guy wasn't really that bad at all. Considering how much of an asshole he was being, it was actually quite nice of the guy to be offering him his cake. "...Thanks," he said hesitantly, giving the guy a somewhat awkward smile in return, as he grabbed a plate of cake out of the refrigerator and began searching through the drawers to find a fork. Forks... he hadn't used this kitchen nearly as much as the other one, so he was a bit unsure as to where, exactly, everything was located. "So," he commented, "You found someone you actually knew here? Huh." He ( ... )
