" ... plant."
Green. All green! None of them withered and dying. As it should be, really. There was no poison here. That's why the humans were okay. Well, most of them. He ran to one, well half-ran anyway, excited to see it again.
"They're alive. They're alive! Thought they were all gone forever ... "
He held onto a flat green leaf and ran one hand gently down it, like how a person would pet a dog or cat. Because it was a living thing. One he'd never expected to see again. And it had such nice color.

She'd peeped into the greenhouse when she heard voices, wondering who was exploring at nighttime.
She'd been expecting to find another grownup. Not dolls.
"You can talk? Is Mr. Break making you talk?" She hugged Mr. Bear in her arms, crouching down to get a better look. "You're dolls aren't you?" It was curious, but Nina was only four, and she'd seen quite a few weird things in her life.
Talking dolls did not seems THAT weird.

He turned quickly to look; to his reassurance, it was just what appeared to be a young human girl. She seemed sweet and curious; something about her curiosity reminded him of the twins. He smiled a little at that thought.
"Dolls? No, we're not dolls, we're, uh..." He just smiled a little, lacking a real answer. "I'm 9, and this is 6."
And in response to her second question, "A-and I don't know who 'Mr. Break' is, so.... no."

" ... h-hi."
He left his little plant hiding spot and approached very slowly, curiosity winning out over caution like it did so often.

Nina was at heart a friendly child, and if 6 and 9 said they weren't dolls, even if her eyes said they were doll, Nina would accept that they were telling her the truth. She tucked Mr. Bear and little closer, dropping to her knees so she could look closer and wouldn't be towering above them. Most adults did that so she wouldn't be scared of them.
