Nina hesitated just under the lip of the piano, nearly crushing Mr. Bear to her chest. Mr. Nanakai's marble was biting into her hand she was holding it so tight.

But he was saying he was sorry, and that was good. Daddy said when someone told you they were sorry, you should say it was alright. Daddy said. Cause...else it was rude. "it's alright if you didn't mean to."

She squinted, managing to make out a person shaped shadow crouching close to her. "Did you just get here, Mr. Vincent? Is that why you didn't know not to sneak?"

She paused, clutching Mr. Bear and Mr. Nanakai's marble a little closer. "I am sorry I screamed, Mr. Vincent. You were really sneaky."

'Mr. Vincent.' It had been a long time since he had been 'Mister' anything... he watched her crushing the bear to her chest--the thick, plush object he'd heard her muffling herself with. Why? He had a hard time figuring it out. Why would she...? He abandoned it as useless and mysterious--another thing he did not understand. He didn't need to know that right now. She was obviously afraid... afraid of him, afraid of 'monsters,' afraid of... what else? He did not frown, but his thoughts darkened.

"Where are we?" He answered her questions with a question of his own, hus low voice raspy and rough with disuse. It had been three years since he had emerged from his coffin, but in those three years he had spoken little, and his voice had never recovered. He didn't need it to.

"A creepy old house." She nodded. "It's better during the day, it's not nearly so creepy and dark. But at night sometimes the lights don't work." She nodded again, rubbing her cheek against Mr. Bear's fur for comfort. "Mr. Chaos says it's another world. He doesn't know how we got here though."

She peered at Mr. Vincent, only able to see the vaguest outline. "I'm sorry I called you a monster, Mr. Vincent. I was rude, daddy would tell me not to jump to conclusions." She nodded. Her fingers relaxed a little on Mr. Nanakai's marble, letting what little dim light there was catch on the ball and reflect into the room.

It was really dark, she wished she had a light so she could see Mr. Vincent better. It would be more reassuring than try to talk to a shadow man with glowy eyes.

Vincent knew all about creepy old houses. Too much, in fact. He had been part of one... too much a part. Creepy old houses had history, they had nightmares... and all too often they had monsters. This he understood all too well--where there was darkness, there was not always light. And there was not always hope. Sometimes there was nothing but the deep abyss, from which edge you could not step away. Unfortunately, that told him next to nothing--there was a wealth of creepy houses in the world, and he had no idea if this one was real or in his head... both were equally possible. 'Mister' Chaos... the name didn't help him. It kept coming, and every time she said it something prickled in in his spine, stirring in the back of his head like talons digging through flesh. He was about to shift, to back up, but his eyes were far too keen to miss the glint of yellow light, sparking through the dim light to catch his attention ( ... )

Nina had been starting to calm down, Mr. Vincent had said he was sorry, and he hadn't tried to eat her or drag her out from under the piano, or preformed any other monster-like acts.

She was actually halfway to certain that he was just a nice man who had just gotten here, and could understand his confusion. At least he hadn't pointed a gun at her like that Ken boy had. After another few minutes, she likely could have been coaxed out from under her Piano hiding place.

Her fist tightened again on Mr. Nanakai's marble, clutching it to her chest and pulling Mr. Bear in front of it. "No." She started to scramble back for her corner, eyes wide in the darkness.
