Break wasn't in the kitchen for anything quite so practical. He'd found some food earlier, eating what he could manage between the headaches that had plagued him since the surgery. No, he was here because he was preparing to find a room to sleep in, but most of them seemed occupied and he'd need some tea and cake to share. That would allow him to get his foot in the door so to speak, to make people like him well enough to let him stay for just a little while, and then perhaps a little longer, and by then it was just too cruel to throw him out again, so... it was not the best way to procure a room, but it would suffice. Dire circumstances call for desperate measures, something like that. He had made do with couches and armchairs last night, but only because he was too tired and in too much pain to do this ( ... )

Watanuki blinked.

For some reason, he had started thinking of the kitchen as 'his' area. Finding someone else trying to cook in it....and scolding him about knocking? He blinked again, unsure.

"Ah, I apologize. I didn't realize anyone else was in the kitchen." Which was stupid of course, it was the only kitchen.....of course other people were going to need to use it besides himself or Sanji.

"You're right I should have knocked." He bowed gently at the waist, keeping his eyes on the stranger.

He eyed the person very faintly, apparently canes were an accepted weapon where ever most of these people came from. This was the second one he had encountered.

"....Are you making tea?" He asked softly, wondering if every other person the House picked would be quite such....an odd looking person....

Luffy made a whispery noise against his ear, sinking deeper beneath his collar.

Ehhh? He gave up so easily. Break couldn't decide if he should be disappointed or pleased. A pushover was always fun to play with, but it was still a bit pathetic. And you had to be careful with pushovers, because if you went too far they'd get all wibbly and then everyone else would be cross with you. He sighed and popped a cherry bonbon in his mouth.

"Yes, well, I suppose I can overlook it since you're so eager to appease me," he said, mumbling around the candy. He turned back to the counter and tossed the tin of tea over his shoulder at the boy. He couldn't be too cruel, but he could at least keep the boy on his toes.

"Darjeeling," he said, and you could hear the smile in his voice. "You can have some, if you like. It should only be a few minutes."

Watanuki felt a flash of temper, and he carefully tapped it down. This was the same game Yuuko liked to play. The trick was not to give in and give them what they wanted.

Which was to watch him explode into a little Watanuki volcano.

He caught the tin smoothly, rising from the bow. "Thank you for the offer, I find tea is very soothing, though I prefer a jasmine blend. But I'm just here to get some things for my group. I'm sorry to intrude."

This guy really reminded him of Yuuko, if he started asking about his birthday, he was leaving. One witch at a time, one already owned his time, he wasn't interested in selling his soul further.

He walked deeper into the kitchen, setting the tin on the counter and heading for the cabinets, pulling down the things on Sanji's list. He kept his back to the other person, trusting Luffy to warn him if the stranger tried to close on him.

Luffy kept itself hidden carefully under Watanuki's collar, humming softly.

The boy took the projectile tea rather well, all things considered. It seemed to be that deliberate patience of one who knew they were being baited. Then the boy was at least reasonably perceptive- delightful. He had terrible taste though, jasmine was too sharp.

"For your group? Hmmmmm?" He glanced over at the boy, suddenly curious. Was there some social order in the house that he was unaware of? "You have some sort of alliance?"

Break wasn't sure if he would be interested in joining a faction himself, but it would be important to know about it if such things existed. Getting two sides of the situation would be useful. The shrill whistle of the kettle interrupted his thoughts; he took it off the stove and poured two cups of tea.
