(It is something that has always been battering at the back of my mind, since Hawkeye seems to take over Hughes' role for Roy, and, well. This is just my silly opinion to support both what I write and what you write.)

It's hard to handle both Hughes' love for his family and his love for Roy without one coming off as the "right" choice.
