They had gone to the beach earlier in the week, and while both of them had worked on their tans, Jack had gotten some time surfing in and it had given him time to think about a lot of different things. There was something about being in the water that gave him the ability to see things more clearly ( Read more... )

As if Brittany was doing anything particularly important. She had been watching tape from the previous season, compiling statistical information that might be of use later on; handling recruiting-trip plans and keeping track of where everyone was; and reading the sports news, including Tom Crean's extension at Indiana and the poor kid from Pittsburgh who couldn't get an extra year of eligibility for his busted knee. She was just doing busywork, mostly, so she finished up the article she was reading and headed downstairs to plop herself on the couch. Which was the couch she had managed to swipe from his house, if that didn't make things even more amusing.

"Did I miss something fun?" she asked, tossing her hair back over her shoulder. "I mean I know I don't get out much...at all...so I probably missed something cool?"

"C'mere," he reached for her hand and pulled her up off of the couch. "Two things. First thing," he leaned in and kissed her, softly, before he wrapped his arm around her waist and then pulled her back to an open spot where they wouldn't run into the coffee table. "I love you."

He picked up the remote for the stereo and hit play, and then set it on the shelf before he took her other hand. "Second thing," the first beats of the song* began to play and he lead her into the first steps of dancing, just slow, easy, back and forth. "I think I want to dance to this song at our wedding."

"Oh, Jack." She beamed, a little, because he was giving her that look and when he did it was impossible to resist him. It was so adorable that she melted and she wasn't sure if she wanted to keep up, or just cuddle him. "I love you too."

But it was the second part of that which threw her for a curveball. She had quietly filed their engagement back into some part of her brain not expecting it to be a topic of discussion any time in the near future, despite the ring on her finger. She paused and said, "Well it's certainly cute...I actually...hadn't been thinking about, um, anything related to the wedding at all, really..." Yeah, she was surprised and flustered. In a good way!

"I was looking into locations the other day. There's a place down in Laguna Beach that I think might be perfect, actually." Jack continued to dance with her as the song shifted into something else, another casual tune but he was more focused on the conversation and on her.

"It's a house right on the beach. The catering company owns the place and rents it out. There's a good sized deck for eating on...I was thinking maybe we just have a simple ceremony on the sand down in front and then we can all head back up to the house to hold the reception. Dinner, dancing, all that stuff. Nothing too big but it would fit all our friends."

He lightly slid his hand to the small of her back and pulled her closer.

"I was thinking maybe you and I could go to dinner tonight, maybe drive by and just take a look at it, walk on the beach a little?"
