Brittany needs a very long nap. Actually, a shower, food, and then a nap. But she's running on adrenaline, and she's been up for close to two days, and none of that matters because finally everything is over.

She's sitting in the conference room with Kim, just like Jack asked her to. But he should have been back by now...

Curiosity gets the better of her.

"Mark? Can you stay with Kim for a sec?" she says, poking her head out. "I'm gonna go find Jack."

"Sure," the older agent says, and gets up from his desk to replace her. Brittany ignores the dirty look she gets from Jake, and manuevers her way through the halls, wondering where the hell her boss has gone to. God forbid if he's passed out somewhere...

What the hell is going on here?

And she's down the hall and into the ITS room in a flash and what she sees will change her life forever.

"Get Brian down here, now!" she snaps in a tone that she thought only Jack could yell in, before she moves into the room. "Jack? Talk to me. What's going on? What happened ( ... )

She's already gone.

If she'd been bleeding out, Jack would be in a different mode this very second. Teri would be in his arms and he'd be running to medical, blowing through doors, shouting orders, giving CPR, doing anything he can to save her life.

She's already gone.

"I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry."

It comes out as a whisper, choked out of lungs that can't seem to get enough air. If he's not careful, he probably will pass out. He wraps an arm around Teri's back, hand stained with red, dark red.

"I'm so sorry."

He's not noticing. She figured as much. Nor does he really pay attention when Brian comes into the room, and it takes forever to actually separate Jack from his wife's body.

Brittany, meanwhile, is frozen slack to the spot, not sure what to do. Brian tells her to watch Jack and she does, but there's not anything she can say or do that will make this better.

She grabs his hand and holds on tight, as much to hold him back as to comfort him.

She has no idea that in just a matter of weeks, she'll be the only person in this building he will give the time of day.

Once she's out of his arms, he starts to feel the ground spinning underneath him. He wants to vomit, but his stomach has nothing in it to get rid of. He wants to scream, but his voice is trapped deep in his chest. He wants to cry, he wants to run, he wants to save her but he just can't.

"Kim...oh God."

How is he going to tell her?

Everything is fuzzy around the edges of his vision. Brian and another medic have left. Teri is gone. Her blood is still soaked into his shirt and on his hands.

"I...we...I can't leave her...need to go home...how am I gonna tell..."
