Joker, meanwhile, was too busy actually ordering Buffo the dumb lackey to go get some fucking dog chow over the phone to pay attention to the fact that Harvey was reliving his childhood (or lack thereof) through Tommy's dog.
He hung up and wandered into the room, crossing his arms and staring at Harvey. "I am going to take such good care of this dog that people will want me to open a fucking kennel."
Bitter that people don't believe him when it comes to dogs, even though he lies all the time and has no reason to be trusted? Of course not.
"They think you'll feed it an explosive and send it into a kindergarten classroom." Harvey responded as he rubbed behind Charlie's ears. There was a time he would have been concerned that the Joker would have taken his idea and done it for kicks. Now he knew better than to think he could ever come up with something more horrifying than what the man would end up doing himself.
...The idea had merit. He contemplated it for a minute before shaking his head to clear out the thought of exploding dogs and babies. "No, I like dogs. They'll get over it. And if Tommy didn't want, uh, wanted me to stay away from his stupid pooch, he would've given you some kibble."
He stared at the dog, mulling it over. "I remember him being less lazy when I went to see Tommy." Or had he been just as lazy? He'd been a little too distracted by Tommy's rack to bother watching the damned dog.
"You know, Harvey, we haven't had a real heart-to-heart lately. What have you been up to, other than your new found empire?"
"He's tired." Harvey isn't sure when the dog stopped being an 'it' and started being a 'he' but there was the shift. "The annoying yelping must have worn him out."
Harvey glanced over at the second heart, contemplating the other man for a moment before turning back to the dog. "Don't pretend you don't know every detail of what I've been up to. Ignorance doesn't suit you." He answered, letting the silence stretch. "I promised I'd clean the streets didn't I?" And that he was doing, slowly and brutally.
