Carbon Monoxide Annoyance

So yesterday was the 1st official weekday of sabbatical, and I got a tremendous amount done so I feel I set a good precedent.  Then when night came I couldn't stop thinking about stuff and couldn't sleep until 5.  Maybe part of my mind gets upset when I'm getting too close to my goals, so I start ruminating more.  I don't know.

Wouldn't be so bad if ( Read more... )

I remember one of you mentioning the CO alarms a week or two ago too. Do you have any likely culprits yet? I'm worried about you guys...

i really dont know, but 1) its in one specific spot, at the top of the stairs outside the upstairs, and 2) it goes away after we open the doors and windows. although today it seemed like it took awhile longer.

so i dont think its immediately dangerous, though we shouldnt ignore it.

the plumber said it was batteries. but if he stops by today for the other issue, i want him to look into it because i dont believe that. also ive been told i can call the fire dept and ask them to inspect.

i really dont understand, but i do know its probably a minor issue instead of deadly, and that the way the house is shaped, any co2 would collect in that spot. thats where all the odors etc in the whole house collect. i think it goes off at night because no one is opening or closing the doors and the heat is on, so it has more time to collect to a level the detector can detect.

I also really don't think it is the batteries, because opening the windows makes it stop. If it was just the power level, then how would the batteries know whether we opened a window? This is why I don't believe the plumber.

I think our best bet might be to get a new one and put it in inside the room upstairs. Getting a new unit will help in case the one going off was broken. Placing it in the room we sleep will also help me know if the problem is in my immediate area and not just behind the door leading in. We can still keep the other unit for an extra level of safety, and we need to make sure the one we have in the basement is mounted properly as well.
