On my diet

So in December I decided to begin a diet after being inspired by this guy.  I don't think I've ever tried a pure calorie approach before, and I have to say this has worked better than anything else for me. I weighed in today at 201 which means I've lost 15 pounds in a month and a half. That's a little faster than I wanted to, because 10 pounds ( Read more... )

Congrats!!

Diets do often go faster at the beginning. I wouldn't be surprised if that rate slows down and then plateaus eventually.

I never used to have issues with waking up starving until I had an external factor waking me all the time. Then I would find myself unable to get back to sleep because of hunger sometimes. One thing I've found that helps with this tremendously is to not make the last thing I eat sugary or low-glycemic. If I have my dessert before dinner, I don't get hungry as quickly.

Also, diets I've had most luck sticking with are the ones that don't make me feel deprived. One where I can have a few cookies now and then is much easier to stick with than a too-strict one.

Anyway, congrats again and I hope it continues for you! :)

I have heard about the plateau business. I never reached one in my past diets because I stop due to sleep deprivation (from being too hungry at night.)

I also know about the exercise plateau. As I build up muscle and exercise becomes less strenuous I get less of a workout from the same activity. I've had to up and up the resistance on my bike to get the heart rate I want while pedaling (heavily negotiating with my knees as to the right amount.)

I'll still be really happy if I reach a plateau after breaking the (1 pound away) 200 mark. If I stop losing at 190 that would be even better, but I'll be pretty satisfied if I just get another pound or two.
