What do they have left if they don't have one? Can they still turn into ghosts? *Not that he's worried for people like that--in fact, the idea of meeting them in ghost form is more unsettling than that of souls being eaten. It's just the principle of it all...*

They can only turn into ghosts if their disembodied souls are left floating around. Reapers usually send them off if that happens.

I don't really know much of the specifics of how or why stuff works with souls, though. If it really bugs you, Shinigami could probably tell you.

Not very long. It starts in what's basically grade seven and goes from there, so about a year, I guess.
