Hi, guys! First, thanks so much for your patience as I take forever on these chapters. Truly. I will be posting the next chapter as 2 because it’s almost 15k words total.
Let me explain why this is a slow process. When I write, I access a very emotionally laden part of myself. I don’t really write to just tell a story. I write to expose /resolve something within a character. And I rarely write a sex scene that’s just sex. To me, that’s boring.
So, a bit about the process…. We’re now at a point in the story with 3 different characters which means 3 different POVs. In my head, I have Brian, Justin and Dill in their own compartments, and I also have separate compartments for each possible sub grouping. So if I am writing about Justin & Dill, that means the 2 of them have found the separate compartment where just they exist. Once inside it, I have to observe what’s going on, and then decide who’s really speaking to me the most. Who has something on the line? Who is experiencing the greatest emotional event? Then I write. Sometimes I’ve judged it wrong, so I pick the other person and explore it from their angle, and then decide whether the scene rings true. That takes awhile. Sometimes no character is revealing anything to me, so I leave the room and wait for the realignment to happen. Maybe something Brian is addressing in his personal space is actually more pivotal than the J/D scene. There’s a lot of writing & rewriting. Lots of frustration.
Often I write past a scene and then realize that the scene that came before is not quite right. I backtrack again. I may, in frustration, try to force characters into a scene. It’s a lot of two steps forward, three steps back.
So, thank you for waiting. I am planning on getting chapter 54 published this weekend and then 55 shortly after.
