Gah. Karkat, surprised, turns around. He then makes a face. Of course she had to start by messing with him. He could have expected this.

"All right, well. You know about the larva Terezi and I had, right? Well, we kind of want your help with something. Or at least maybe your cooperation."

He shrugs.

"It's sort of complicated. Short version, Surmat is a useless piece of shit and we think it's because she never had to undergo her trials. She's missing some key confidence in her abilities or something. It's pathetic. She acts almost human because Terezi coddled her so damn much."

"Trials." ..... There was a moment of consideration. "Those echoes from your memories with a lot of running, flailing, biting, and things bigger than you trying to eat you?"

And she tilts her head, considering. Oh yes, things'd been getting MUCH more interesting since she'd gotten alien psychology added to the soup that made up Silent Hill...

"God dammit, you could have just asked. Stop pawing through my head or whatever, this is serious. Anyway yeah, those trials. They're a bitch, but they're important. Separate the weak from the strong."

He starts to lean back, remembers he's still injured, and gives up on that idea.

"There's no brooding caverns here, and I'll be following her progress so it's not exactly the same thing, but first kills are important. She has to learn how to take care of herself."
