Summary: As Connor and Basheer the Gorgosaurus try to find a proper place for their large wreath, they come across someone they were not expecting.

“Lester is not into the whole spirit of Christmas, is he?” Basheer inquired glumly as he gazed at the colourful wreath suspended over the Anomaly Research Centre doorway.

Turning his gaze upwards, Connor gave a little shrug. “Lester’s not much into anything. If he is into one thing, it has to be that strict face he loves to wear.” He patted the enormous leg of the Gorgosaurus and smiled encouragingly up at him. “But don’t let that get to you big guy. We’ve still got plenty of options for spreading the Christmas cheer.”

“I hardly see how we can accomplish that anymore.” Basheer sighed and shut his eyes. “Professor Cutter is too busy with trying to predict the anomalies to bother with any seasons greetings. Jenny is too preoccupied with preventing the public from knowing that I exist and even Sarah seems quiet.”

“What about Ryan, Stephen, and Becker?”

Basheer gave a snort of laughter as he opened his eyes. “The soldiers? They still do not trust me so they are not going to even try helping me.”

“Well in that case I suggest that whenever we see them looking so glum, we should greet them with, ‘humbug.’”

This brought a smile to Basheer’s face. “This place is a bit of a Scrooge, isn’t it?”

“It is but that’s work for you,” replied Connor with a grin. He rubbed his hands together and began looking about the parking lot. “All right so let’s think of some place to put our abnormally large wreath. How about Lester’s car?”

“Or, how about there!” Basheer suggested as gestured with his head towards a blue police box sitting at the farthest end of the lot. “Lester cannot protest if it is a bit out of sight and it is not so far away that people still can see it.”

“Not a bad idea! That place is nice and handy and you’re right, if anyone should complain, it would be the police. But it’s their own fault for sticking that silly thing here in the first place. If we’re in trouble, we’re not going to call on them to help us out. We‘ve got our own copper!”

“Danny Quinn!” exclaimed Basheer with a grin. “And we are quite a unique team so there is little that we cannot accomplish together!”

“Too right!” Connor replied as he headed towards the police box. He scrunched his brow a little as he gazed at it. “Funny though, I don’t recall it being there earlier.”

But Basheer paid this remark no mind as he gently took hold of the wreath with his teeth. Moving away from the building, Basheer calmly made his way towards the box. Once they arrived, Basheer placed it just on the doorframe and took a step back to admire it. His face fell slightly as he saw that the bottom was nearly touching the concrete.

“I think we should try and find some place higher for this.”

“Good idea!”

Just then the door budged and a muffled exclamation followed. The door hit upon the wreath until a face became visible in the doorway. It was a man in a brown suit that was mostly covered by an equally dark coloured overcoat. He groaned as he pushed against the door until at last the wreath gave way and toppled over at the feet of the Gorgosaurus.

The Doctor stumbled out of the police box, Rose Tyler following at his heels. For a moment no one said a word as they gazed in shock at one another.

Basheer broke the silence with a pitiful cry of dismay, “Oh dear… um, welcome back?”

“It’s the Doctor!” Connor exclaimed, still startled by the sudden appearance of the time traveller that they thought would never come back.

Rose stepped out from behind the Doctor and began trying to pick up the wreath. She looked up at Basheer and frowned apologetically up at him. “I’m so sorry, Basheer. I hope it’s not damaged.”

The dinosaur gave a shake of his head, a friendly smile replacing his hurt. He lowered his head and rumbled affectionately at the woman. “It would take a lot to hurt that poor thing. It’s good to see you Miss Rose Tyler!”

“And good to see you too!” Rose exclaimed, petting Basheer’s snout. “I see that your leg has healed! How have you been?”

“Couldn’t be any happier!” replied Basheer happily. He then frowned, a soft whine emitted in his throat as he did so. “Sadly, I wish there was more Christmas spirit around here. It is a bit difficult to be merry with only a few supporters.”

“We’ll see what we can do,” Rose chuckled as she gave Basheer’s muzzle another pat.

The Doctor, having recovered from his shock at being greeted by a tyrannosaur, donned a smile and grasped Connor’s hand and said, “Merry Christmas!”

“Ah yes, you both are just in time for the festivities!” Connor took hold of another part of the wreath. “I knew that I could trust you to keep your word Doctor.”

“I like being punctual,” replied the Doctor with a grin. “Now, where did you have in mind to put this?”

“That…” Basheer sighed, “seems to be the question of the day.”
