*dries tears* very well done. poor Connor, but he was a hero through and through. it was a tough read, but i liked it. and the whole "Wedge Antilles" comparison was perfect. that was the final nail in the coffin for me.

*hugs* Thanks! I'll admit that I loved the Wedge Antitlles comparison as well! I'm a Star Wars geek and I was really distressed that none of the movies really showed ihs character as much as the books did. Wedge was Luke's best friend and he got a mere nod in the movie. That's how it felt for Connor as well so it was easier to make that comparsion. Both got to be a hero at least!

I agree. He got very little development in the movies, but that left it open for the EU books (Rogue Squadron especially) to take him and run, and they did a great job. And yes, Connor was the hero from start to finish, and he suffered as well. I couldn't help but compare Connor with Roland in this story. Can't wait for more stories.

See that's why I am partial to the Star Wars books more than the movies! There was also a game where one of the missions had Wedge get captured by the Empire. It upset me a lot and so whenever I watched my brother playing that I kept helping him win. Eventually I was able to play the mission myself and successfully retrieve my favourite character!

Awww wow really? Well, likewise, I can't wait to read more of your story! Both of these characters have come so far and then by the end of it, they're ready for a nice, peaceful rest.

I was so relieved when the gun jammed and all through the story I hoped Connor would make it.*sighs*
That was a painful read, but in a good way.
The run against the time was heartbreaking. Connor was in so much pain and yet so strong until the end. *weeps*

Weapon jamming is highly annoying especially when you're doing qualifications with an M-16 at BMT. But for this, it was life-saving, well, sort of.

I hope this means that I am getting better with the angst. I really wanted to make this one perfect because Connor's death was going to have a huge impact on Danny. Would it be silly of me to say that I was rooting for Connor's survival as I wrote this?

But I liked the ending that I came up with because it leaves room for different interpretation. Not only that but it gives me a great opportunity to use this grief of Danny's to make him do something incredibly stupid with nearly tragic results.

*hugs* Thanks for your support with writing this!

You're kidding. When there had been more angst I would probably sit weeping under the desk now. Don't worry it was wonderful written.
I've no experience with gun jamming. The small calibre riffle I learnt shooting as a teen hadn't any problems and the Walther PPK gun neither.
But I prefer my bow. It makes less noises.:)

Awwww okay well thank you for the encouragement throughout this! I'm glad I did because I feel so much better now. If only I can get through "Not Forever Lost" I shall be good to go! I'm not sure what chapter story I will tackle next.

Guns aren't supposed to jam that often, at least, not the ones that I have handled. The .22 rifle I shot during our BME never jammed through the two years that I went to the activity. And we fired those rifles a lot too. However, the M-16s at Basic jammed a lot. We were told that it was because of the high usage. I mean, those things get used every single day and are fired at least 128 times. Typically those guns don't jam.

Yeah, bows do make less noise! :D

For now it is, though I'll say this, Connor isn't going to stay dead. I had to put Connor in such a way that Danny loses all hope and tries to go after Strong alone. And because teamwork is such an awesome thing, this lands him in a lot of trouble and it nearly gets himself and little Bluebird killed. When Danny wakes up in the hospital, Abby tells him that Connor is alive. Eventually the stories will end happily with Strong getting eaten by the therocephalians. :)

*cries loudly*

Oh, that was painful and beautiful and heartbreaking all at the same time. Poor Connor, so brave and loyal no matter what. And Danny trying to save him and refusing to leave him. But OMG, I really thought Connor was going to make it once Danny had found him and got him out of there, but then he didn't and I'm kind of flailing randomly at the screen now because I can't believe he died after surviving all that.

*huggles all of them*

*cries more*

I know you were having huge fic-angst over writing this, but it's a great story and I'm so glad you finally managed to finish it, it was worth waiting for.

I've definitely appreciated the encouragement! It's been such a struggle trying to courage to write this because honestly, I didn't think that I could write it well. But I got into the practice with another fandom and then writing those drabbles seemed to help as well. So I am glad that this is finally over and people have enjoyed reading it.

*hugs*

Connor got to be a hero at last and I know that was really important to him throughout the series. And I think he really did need someone to tell him how valuable he was to the team. Thank you so much for reading this and putting up with my angsting over it! I couldn't have gotten through it if it wasn't for the gentle pushes!
