I got a little note today wondering where I was. Apparently I haven't posted since September. Um... oops? I didn't mean to be so quiet!

I think what helped confuse me was that I have been posting over on twitter, which allowed me to check off the "type some sort of update on the internet" box in my mental to do list

Well first you read to your heavy cream....

Ahem.

Basically it's the same process as making butter, only instead of jumping right in with your heavy cream you culture it using some yogurt and by leaving it out overnight. This has a good writeup with links.

I last made butter about ten years ago, I think. Took a carton of heavy whipping cream and agitated it forever, so my kids could see how the process worked. They were impressed, yet happy for the ability to just walk into the supermarket and buy a box of the stuff in sticks.

(I grew up in a semirural area and we used to make butter by shaking raw cream in Mason jars. Dadburn kids today have no way to relate to that. ;) )

Yeah, I wizzed mine up in my food processor. It's much like when I tried using a drop spindle - I understood the process, and also understood why someone went on to invent the spinning wheel.
