I just had far too much fun sending book samples to my Kindle. Why is this defined as too much fun? Because my Kindle hasn't been delivered yet, that's why. (Though as of yesterday it has been shipped! EEEEEEEEEE ( Read more... )

Thank you so much for mentioning the No on Prop 8!!!! Seriously, THANK YOU!!! I'm someone who is biting her lip and chewing her fingernails down to the quick (at the same time, don't ask me how that works) for this thing NOT to pass. I'm gay and I'd really like it if I could marry in my home state where all my family and friends are. Now, that's a long time off, but still...

NO ON 8! 8 IS HATE!

SERIOUSLY. Like the sign says, "Did we put YOUR marriage to a vote"?

ME TOO. And I'm SO tired of all the damn YES ON 8 signs and bumper stickers and bullshite I can barely stand it. I'm really worried that the damn thing will pass, and then I'm going to cry.

The true irony of this is that they keep hitting the 'IF THIS DOESN'T PASS, YOUR CHILDREN WILL BE TAUGHT ABOUT TEH GAYS in SCHOOL' thing, right? Well, my best friend has told me that every morning this past week when she took her 9-year-old to school, the Yes on 8 morons have been out demonstrating. So guess what? Her daughter asked what it was about, because of course children are curious! So they actually pushed what they were complaining about to happen! My friend is annoyed because sure, she figured she'd be discussing this with her kids eventually, but she wanted to do it when she felt they were ready - not because asshats pushed the issue on her and her family ( ... )

Well yanno it doesn't count when they're the ones teaching children about teh gay. It only counts when it's OTHERS.

Kind of like folks who say pregnant teens should be forced to talk to their parents prior to getting an abortion... unless said parents are pro-choice, in which case pregnant teens should lie to their parents and talk to someone else.

I'm not American, and I've been excited about your election for weeks. XD

I've watched all the debates (even did the syncronised watching thing with my IM buddy) and our programming (I'm Swedish) is full with it. There's a made-by-public-service documentary called "From Bill to Barack" on tonight and there'll be special coverage all Tuesday night. So in a way, I feel as if I'm American!

About the gay rights thing - I saw a Palin icon in a slash comm I belong to, which kind of surprised me. I went to that person's LJ and two things were evident; that they're a die hard slasher and McCain/Palin supporter. Lesson learned; fandom = diverse, prejudice = inefficient.

Good luck on Tuesday!

Yeah, I have a special place for folks who are fine for writing about gay couples yet want to deny them rights in reality. Grrrr.

4 years ago, I got into a HUGE argument with a fangirl in LOTRips over this issue. It was election night, we had our usual slashchat going, with a lot of bi and gay fangirls. MASSIVE argument. I was so angry that I was shaking. I remember saying things like "gays are not your minstral show, yo!"

She was saying things like "I don't have problems with gay people, just ACTING on homosexual feelings."

at that point, I may just have said something like "fuck you and the train you road in on."

Thank you for posting about Question 1. I'm in CT and had only heard of this question tangentially and hadn't heard anything about the implications and sneakiness going on. Now that I know I'll be voting no and encouraging others to do the same.

Yeah, it totally snuck up on me too. If I'd read it without context I might've been like sure, why not? It wasn't until I found out who was backing it and why (and how it would shut out the voice of the voters instead of including it like it's claiming to) that I realized my actual stance was No.

I'm def. trying to spread the word on that one while I can.

Hopefully the time lag in CA will work both ways - if Obama is leading significantly early in the day, the apathy factor will affect both conservative and liberal voters equally.

This is what I'm hoping. Man, if that fucking thing passes I'm going to be SICK.
